Nearest pub to where you live

The WIV is still going but every time I’ve been in there recently it feels like The Masons did, massive lovely old building with nobody in it. I fear for it.

The one that is going gangbusters is The Island aka The Buccaneer from the old days. Gone from a flat roof pub in all but architecture to rammed out day in day out. Known locally as the raver’s graveyard due to the preponderance of knackered old parents who clearly enjoyed the 90s and now settling down (I include myself in this number)

The Chamberlayne and the Whippet (old Greyhound) seem healthy as well.

And Maggie’s Bar for the old school Irish is still one of my favourites

I’ll miss The Masons though, hope someone takes it on but the location screams “cheap new build flats”

Eze for England!
at 21:10 3 Jun 2024

Thought Eze did enough to get more of the country behind him and show what he can do. Only player in that first half who didn’t do the usual England thing and take three touches and play the easy ball. He should be pleased with that.

Literally just heard the closest pub to me is closing its doors - The Mason’s Arms in Kensal Green.

Gutted, spent many a great time in there although you could tell it was coming, been totally empty for large parts of the week for years.

They lost the big garden in some sort of property dispute with London Underground a while back and never been the same since.

A lot of history gone though if it disappears, must have been a boozer for a good 150 years

There’s a thriving load of independent garages for the Alphard / ElGrand so find a local one and parts etc not a problem - a lot of parts are shared with other Nissans and Toyotas as well anyway. I’d highly recommend looking at them as an option they’re brilliant cars and a real bargain, you can get good ones for 6k.

Insurance as an import doesn’t seem to be an issue. Lots of places will import one for you if you give them a budget and a spec and then do all the bits that need doing (translate the radio, seal it for rust which the Japanese don’t do)

Only caveat is they’re in a bit of a grey area with ULEZ, they’re fine for now but as they don’t have an official EU emissions number who knows if that may change one day.

Car advice - 7 seater
at 19:47 29 May 2024

Couple of leftfield ones:

I recently bought an old school Volvo V70 with the “family pack” from 2003 which means it has the rear facing seats in the boot and in-built booster seats. The kids and their mates love it and if you can find a well-looked after one the Volvos from that era will go on forever. One of the best car buys I’ve ever made: bulletproof, amazing stereo, super comfortable seats, lovely to drive, massive boot. I’m planning to keep it going until they can use it as their first car. Stick a roof box on as well and you could start a removals company.

Also look at imported Japanese Nissan Elgrands. Not great on fuel as they have the V6 from the Nissan Skiyline but they’re brilliant cars and there’s a thriving setup of enthusiasts in the UK so easy to get parts etc. The kind of car you get picked up in the VIP section in Asia. Easy to turn into a camper as well.

End of Term 23/24 – Attack
at 23:20 27 May 2024

A great read that.

I disagree on Sinclair though, he clearly terrifies high quality defences already, his attitude is good and he does remind me of when Sir Les was rubbish for years and then was suddenly amazing.

Coaching him into the right choices on the pitch shouldn’t be beyond our management team and I think he’s potentially a big player

The same geniuses that promised that leaving the EU would solve immigration and make things better for everyone are now proposing to bring back national service.

I would gently argue that it’s another pie in the sky piece of absolute bullshit from the same vested interests that sounds good in theory and has literally no chance of happening.

Players we should have got rid - way before we did

100% this.

He was pony and having him in central defence for all that time coincided with our slide into Div 1 from which we’ve never really recovered.

OK it wasn’t entirely his fault but I mainly blame him

Agreed - giving ex first team players a respectful goodbye and the chance to let them say goodbye is a small but meaningful sign we have moved forward.

So many great players fked off without a by your leave in the recent past

I thought Hull looked like the best team we played this season.

Certainly not a side in need of a new manager. Surprised they didn’t make the play-offs, and it looks like the owner was as well.

Good bye and good luck Ozzy - as Peter Hucker said he’s a local boy who went to QPCS school and has been a real inspiration to the local kids round here.

100 games in the Championship is not shabby at all and must put him in a tiny club of players that have done that in the QPR first team all way from joining as a kid.

Never hid, always tried.

I reckon he might do better reinventing himself as a centre back, I always thought he looked decent in that role.

Because he’s a wrong un and a total c—t. So of course he doesn’t like us.

Fairly staggering he’s still getting work after a lot of his behaviour

Willock pre injury was heading for the big leagues IMO - those last few games before he did his hamstring he was strong, agressive, fast, skilful and scoring goals.

The tragedy since he came back was he came into years of chaotic management - the post Beale era, and then Ainsworth who actively humiliated him - so nobody put an arm around him and tried to get him back to his best. He’d lost most of what made him good - bottle, pace, strength and looked terrified of getting injured again.

Marti as in many things did a decent job and got him playing again but it’s too late now, he’s out of contract and by all accounts will go for the biggest pay day, which won’t be us.

Will be interesting to see where he goes, still think with the right move he could really go places. Equally he could fade away

It’s a good point that. If Marti realised the situation and gave him enough chances to break the record when frankly on merit it wasn’t going to happen then that makes me like our manager even more

A great signing on footballing reasons alone particularly in his first season, scored some important goals.

A great singing on the “right sort” metric, clearly someone who loves playing to the extent he was playing in U21 games with a smile on his face this season.

He’s not a Rangers fanatic in the Gallen or Bircham mould so always treated the “QPR
fan” thing with a pinch of salt but he’s proved himself a Rangers man through and through.

Thank you Uncle

As an adjunct to this, the out ball to Dunne at advanced right back which he wins about 90% of the time only works if your keeper can do it. Begovic is very good at it, Seny for example was not

Possible Leeds fans retribution
at 16:40 26 Apr 2024

I lived in Leeds for a while - their fans aren’t that bad for me, can think of a lot worse. And there won’t be that many of them either to start kicking off. Wouldn’t worry about it.
