Why isn’t anyone talking about the England team. 4-0 is a decent result no matter who the opposition is. 14 goals scored and only one conceded in 3 qualifying games so far. Exciting, young, talented team. two semifinals in the last two international competitions. This is priceless.
The BBC says that England haven’t lost a qualifying game in World Cup or European cup qualifiers in a decade. That doesn’t sound completely right coz I thought we lost to Belgium recently, but if the Beeb say it i guess it must be true. Ten bloody years! That’s crazy!!

I have always understood the expression to mean someone or some team who dominate (so called) inferior opposition but who can't beat top level opponents.
In cricketing terms it was (first?) used to describe the batsman Graham Hick who scored over 40,000 runs in County Games including over 130 tons and with an average of 52 - in comparison to his England career with 6 centuries and an average of only 31.
Still Jason Roy would probably kill for an average of 31 right now. |
Lampard was your archetypal FTB in football terms. Could fill his boots with his scuffed shot goals against West Brom, Bolton, Wigan et al but frequently went missing in big, important games (remember him playing in he 2006 WC QF? No, me neither) and hardly ever scored against the top four sides or in CL quarter or semi finals. |  |
