I am old enough to remember that substitutes were only allowed for injured players when I started watching and only one per team per match. That changed fairly quickly because the likes of Don Revie at dirty Leeds was getting his players to feign injury in order to make a tactical substitution.
There are so many substitutions now that it’s difficult for any one player to become a super sub in the Fairclough mould. | |

St Etienne game was 1977.
I went to that game with me ol Fella. We were in the main stand right at the back.I remember telling the people next to us we were Swans fans and did they have any issue with that. They didnt . Great fans.
Worra game,albeit one we or rather Dai Davies chucked away.

I was there too, I was 14. I missed most of the game because I got knocked off the crash barrier and spent the rest of the match holding my two mates up on it. Our responsible adult having gone to the toilet and not getting back to us, we found him outside and were very relieved we did.
Great days they were. One of those mates sadly died 5 years later. He'd come to Preston with us too. 34 years later and I can still hear his voice, se his face vividly. The other boy I think is still alive though I haven't seen him in over 20 years. Ah memories.
Fairclough was brilliant, give him 15 minutes or even less and he'd work wonders. | |

One of them said the refs sent Dai Davies off....and then he wasn't sent off. What little I did see was Dalglish running us ragged, what a fantastic player he was. I have to say I had a picture of me and Dalglish as he was coming off the pitch as I was escorting him into the tunnel. My lad fookn lost it at Leeds Uni as it somehow was in his stuff.He's a Reds fan. Almost cut him out of my will there and then.
Kenny was and is a gent not that I can understand much what he mumbles and he can be a sourface at firt meeting but he has a very dry sharp wit and a heart of gold.
As a player,the best Ive seen along with Denis Law and Ivor Allchurch. Not very big -about 5-9 but big thighs and huge arse.
He and is wife have raised millions for breast cancer in the county .

I thought the ref gave Liverpool most of the decisions that day, I thought Swans were the better team until going 0-2 up and sitting back, Terry Mc was a disgrace rolling around like it was 2020.
I remember Leighton James taking a fast bowler run up to hit an unstoppable penalty past Clemence, I thought he was walking up to the away end to wave to the crowd he was so far out of the penalty box to take his run up. [Post edited 23 Oct 2020 14:41]
