So much like the good old days for 70 minutes - then the mid field melted, and Norwich decided they might as well have a go as they couldn't be arsed to bother up till then. The game should have been out of sight well before then, but typical Rangers to finish up hanging on for a win.

BFG and Conor look great as a combo, just needs a bit of fine tuning from Ollie now, nice to leave a game smiling for once.

Afterwards, Norwich fans in the school end reckoned that the ball was over the line before the handball, I suppose the technology for goal line decisions disappeared with Redknobb.

Great report Clive on a great match. It's great to see entertainment back on the menu at Loftus Road.

Regarding your query on the double jeopardy rule for the penalty & sending off. Doesn't the referee have to take into account "intention". In this account it was a deliberate action by Olsson to prevent a certain goal so he rightly received a red card. This is different to a mis-timed challenge by a defender on a forward in a goal scoring position, where a yellow card is correct because it was not intentional.

We might have to get used to a nervy last 15 minutes every time we're ahead at that stage. One of my abiding memories of Ollie's first period here was how we would be trying to hang on to what we had rather than killing a game off. The number of times Gallen would try and hold the ball in the corner with up to 15 minutes left was frightening.

All added to the atmosphere though. Best day out at LR since the opening day of the season.

If the ball was over the line before he handled it shouldn't a goal have been awarded.

Yes but I doubt the linesman or ref could have been sure. From the replay it doesn't look like the whole ball was over so the ref had no option really.

Great report as always Clive, thanks.

Can't agree that "wingbacks are a rare sight in the modern game at this level" or that it hasn't been suggested by fans, I think it has.

Just had a quick look at our results, and from memory Cardiff, Preston, Wigan, Burton all used wingbacks against us this season. And the likes of Forest, Reading and Bristol City have used it over the season against other sides.

Not to take anything away from Holloway's decision to set up like that, I'm in total agreement that it suits our centrebacks (especially Lynch) and Holloway did well to then push Hall up into midfield to make use of the 1 man advantage.

I suppose, the one issue is that it doesn't leave room for any wingers and we have a lot in the squad - Ngbakoto, Wszolek, Shodipo, El Khayati, Gladwin - which might explain why Hasselbaink didn't use it.

Didn't go to Wigan or Cardiff (rare for me) but Burton and Preston certainly didn't play like that against us.

But yes, agree with everything else. Bold selection, and something similar will beat Ipswich next week, hope he doesn't go all Old Holloway just because we're away.

Wonderful report as per usual - thanks as ever.
Might be being a bit harsh on Chery missing the penalty in the competition earlier in the week. Once everybody had scored they started again but had to use their weaker foot. Polter scored just about with his left, Chery missed using his right.

Good spot mate, hadn't noticed that.

Playing ten men for ninety minutes and a very generous Norwich defence was perfect for us but what a difference.
So good to see a QPR team with a plan, all of us knowing what the shape was and also what our mindset was too - attack. Everyone looked so comfortable in their respective positions - who'd have predicted wing backs? A brilliant start to Ollie's second spell and hopefully a new found confidence too.

Wish I could be like David Watts

Thanks Clive, great report as always.

Anyone have any info on why their player took so long to leave the field and what they were disputing with the ref. It looked pretty clear cut and deliberate to me.

I am normally a glass half full merchant but I can't help wondering what the post match atmosphere would have been like if they had got a second or worse. Thankfully, that didn't happen but we would do well to remember some days things go for you some days they don't and the margin is often very fine.

What I posted under match thread

The yellow (instead of a red last season) for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity in the penalty area only applies to fouls that make a "genuine attempt to play the ball"

Other red card offences in the penalty area, such as denying a goal by handball, serious foul play, violent conduct are still red cards, as are fouls that do NOT make a genuine attempt to play the ball - although in that last example, not sure many referees are going to be brave enough to still give a red in those (rare) instances.

To add to the confusion, ANYTHING that happens outside the area is treated exactly the same as it always was.

Looking at Ipswich highlights, IF they defend the same way as they did on Saturday, won't matter what formation we play - we will beat them.

Big, big IF of course - McCarthy won't stand for that sort of performance again!

He might not be the manager come Saturday! The natives are getting restless about Mr McCarthy!

It's worth noting that Ollie currently has the highest win percentage in the league this season. All hail, His Ollieness.
