David Wheeler The forgotten man
at 12:03 6 May 2019

We would fail the interview given us by Mr Tisdale.
Sadly can't see Wheeler being Championship standard.

I have seen a lot of Wheeler in his time with Exeter, he is an excellent player at League 2 level and I have no doubt he could be useful at League 1 but I am surprised at him coming to us. I really dont see him as a wing/full back, he is very attack minded. The comparison with Ainsworth as a player is a good one. Ollie Watkins who went to Brentford was the one to get but he cost more than three times the fee (assuming rumours are correct). Exeter have a 16 year old just breaking into the first team, Sparkes, who looks a great prospect. If we were to get anyone from Exeter though it is the guy who has been running their youth set up for the past 10 years or so, I am led to believe he has been placed on gardening leave after falling out with the club.

Terry Fenwicks equaliser in the Cup Final, still want to jump up and down like a loon now just thinking about it. Both of Hoddles belong on the other thread.

Should I steer my son towards Fulham or let him find his own club?
at 13:50 8 Jul 2016

Konk, Brizzle is a great city. I am further west, my lads were 'free' to make their own choice on clubs with only subtle guidance for their dad. The eldest chose Exeter and the youngest QPR. Had very special times with them both at their respective choice of clubs. Get him into Fulham, if when he is old enough he wants to follow his local team with his mates so be it. The times he spent at the Cottage with his Old Man will always be special.

Just returned from a fabulous week in Croatia, never been before but highly recommend it, beautiful place. Off to a wedding in Mansfield this weekend. I fear my summer may have peaked too early.

New football league proposals
at 12:51 20 May 2016

I was told by a director of a League 2 club that the evening fixtures are purposely arranged to be design to be between clubs far apart geographically. The theory being that if the away following would be relatively low for a Saturday game then a drop in support for mid week wouldn't cost as many £££.
Sorry, I don't think that makes much sense but I know what I mean

Midfield players to look at

Matt Grimes, Swansea. Spent end of season on loan at Blackburn. England Under 20 captain and has been in England Under 21 squad. Quality left foot, a younger Ale perhaps?

First QPR goal scorer you ever saw live

Ian Gillard for me too, although it may have been given as an og. 1-1 draw at home to Everton, October 1978. Still remember everything about that day, had no idea I was going to my first game until my dad showed me the Loftus Road street name. Even remember the bacon sandwich I had before I left. White bread, butter 3 rashers and ketchup, perfect!

This absolutely this! Spent the entire time feeling I was on a film set, the noise the smells the buzz, amazing place. Had to get out after a few days though as I was desperate to see the sky again. Over twenty years since I was there but recommend a boat trip round the island its a good way to get your head round the geography of the place, I know some people who did it last year and said it was good. Take the bus, really friendly people, everyone wants to speak to an Australian. Has to be one of the best cities in the world.

I can understand why you mention Nicholls (Exeter City) based on his performance against Liverpool but I see quite a lot of Exeter and would be very surprised if he ever plays higher than League 1. He is a decent finisher at this level but doesn't stand out as others who went onto better thing have done. Would be happy with Bamford but would we have to change to 2 up top to get the best out of him?

This is still a special club

I rarely post but read this site daily as I find you all entertaining and informative. I would like to share a text I received from my 17 year old lad today which will hopefully relieve some of the frustration currently being experienced. "Saw some guy in Exeter wearing one of QPR's old jackets so I went over, said its nice to see another Rangers fan in Exeter and we were talking, then he bought me a hot chocolate and that was that!" Players and owners come and go but it is us supporters that make this club special and that must never change. See you all in Nottingham. Come on you suppaaaa..........

Also recommend watching After Thomas, a one off drama based on the book A Friend Like Henry. It's based on a true story of how a pet Lab is beneficial to a young lad with autism.

Good for you ED, I wish I could get in the mind set to lose a couple of stone. One thing I have been told is that for those with a dodgy back avoid sit ups, planking is much better.

It must be because there is not a game plan, nothing is done by instinct. I agree re Isla, Ned has many qualities but (as had been said many times) passing isnt one of them and he controls a ball further than I can kick it. Unless both of Islas legs have dropped off he has to start. Would also have liked to see Traore on the left in place of Niko. Swansea moved the ball quickly, played it into space. All our passes were to feet and often the wrong ones.

Took a mate who is a rugby fan last night, it was his first game of football for many years. Within 20 minutes he had sussed it; why is nobody trying to get behind the Swansea defence? Why, when we have the ball does EVERYBODY stand still, not a single player making a run. It really isn't difficult. But no, our management team were so content they only felt the need to make one sub and keep the 'tactics' the same throughout. Overheard a conversation between two of their fans after the game it was simply "Queens Park Rangers....terrible."

If you can find a copy "With Clough by Taylor" is an interesting read, I think it may be one of the things they fell out about.
Plenty of his players talk highly of him and some like John McGovern followed him everywhere. Dont think he and Stan Bowles got on too well though

L/B for Middlesborough, can also play C/B. I think he is their captain and won all the awards going at Boro last season, contract up at end of season. Previously played for Donny Wolves and started at Exeter. Sorry not sure of his favourite food or what car he drives. Also dont think we need him as we have plenty of cover.
Fer (or somebody to that standard) and a striker of the quality of Remy are a must

Potential Transfer Targets

Not the most urgent area for reinforcements but George Friend can play L/B, L/M or C/B and won all awards at Middlesborough this year. Read an interview with him, he seems a proper chap, his contract is up next summer and is desperate to play in the Prem so should break the bank
