Andre Dozzell

Don't think that's correct. My recollection is that many Ipswich supporters rated Dozzell, others did not.

Andre Dozzell

Dozzell is a good quick, accurate passer of the ball, ideal for how Marti wants us to play the game passing out from the back with a 3 man midfield. Since he went we have rarely done that and then when Colback has played. Playing out from the back has become a pragmatic long ball out to Dunne wide after Begovic, JCS and Cook have passed it along the back line 2 or 3 times. I think he's a decent player, clearly Mowbray a good Manager thinks the same, even though so many don't. He scored our goal of the season for me too.

The LFW Confession Box
at 11:42 30 Apr 2024

Our wins at Cardiff and Boro together with some decent performances inbetween gave me some hope, but that pretty much went during the following games under Gareth, particularly Blackburn home. I only got that hope back when Marti came in and we got a point at Rotherham. I have always had some confidence in our regular players, just felt the squad was too thin. Although there was the occasional bad game since Marti came in usually in the middle or at the end of a 3 match week, our key players stayed mostly fit and we continually improved, so I always retained the hope we'd stay up despite the few setbacks along the way.

Ilias Chair
at 15:19 29 Apr 2024

I think Chair is playing well when we are playing well like on Friday night when I also thought he was MOM, just a shade ahead of a number of others JCS, Cook, Field, Colback, Andersen and Willock. When we are not playing well then often I think Chair is not so good because then he tends to hold onto the ball too much, ignores players in better positions and makes bad decisions. The team has performed better since Marti came in and Chair has too, he's more willing to use his left foot to go round defenders and cross, and his dead ball delivery has improved since Andersen became 1st choice on them.

Next season - 4 key players for us to keep
at 16:54 24 Apr 2024

From afar looking only at screens it looks to me like Willock still has the technical ability he had when scoring brilliant goals under Warburton before his bad injury, but has lost a bit of pace over that key few feet it takes to get round decent defenders in an around the penalty area. He isn't getting as many goals as you say, but also not so many shots on goal. Looks like he has lost a bit of physical strength from when he was at his best as well to me.

We are not safe!!!

Nobody knows and it's just my bad gut feeling. Based a bit on us having to play 2 good teams with Leeds needing a win to get automatic promotion and Birmingham having it in them somewhere to be a good team - they were 6th in October when they made the bananas decision to fire Eustace and appoint Rooney.

Looks horribly likely to me that we get nothing from Leeds or Coventry while Brum go above us on GD by beating Huddersfield who look gone, and taking a point from a Norwich team most likely already in the play- offs.

They can catch us on GD, though highly unlikely.

Player of the season
at 21:06 21 Apr 2024

JCS Player of the Season for me. Class. That tackle yesterday showed where he's at. Top notch.

Sinclair Armstrong Young Player of the Season. Improved considerably and also the most exciting player to watch for me. Has terrified defenders with a huge smile.

For Goal of the Season I voted Andre Dozzell's cannon into the top corner, at Boro I think, from about 30 yards out, but the Keeper was nowhere near it.

Brum can drop 2 points and still go above us on GD if we lose our 2 remaining games. 4 points from games with Huddersfield and Norwich possibly already in the play offs look doable for them.

Andersen

I'd written basically the same about Andersen but it disappeared somehow while editing. But anyway I agree entirely. Note: he can throw it longer than anyone else too except possibly Dykes, judging by 2 yesterday.

Corrected thanks. Must have been thinking about who needs to lose today.

The spill the Preston Keeper made yesterday for Dykes goal was an easier catch than Begovic's spill at Plymouth. I've read of many similar errors in Championship games recently, end of season nerves perhaps. 2 from Woodman yesterday.

Tiger a chance on me but don't let me down Hull Vs QPR Match Thread
at 18:57 16 Apr 2024

Agree with a lot of that. Andersen was good in his first few games mainly because he wanted to pass and move forward into space for a return pass, create openings in the oppositions penalty area... but those passes rarely came from Chair or Willock. Recently he's looked perplexed at then ignoring him when he was in good positions and try to do it all themselves, and he seems to have lost form. Of late there's not been much interplay between Willock and Chair either.

Sheffield and Huddersfield could win their last 3. I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Yes I think Begovic was just fine until about mid-season but got a lot of abuse on here anyway from some posters. More recently he has made more errors and looked more hesitant, maybe not so sure if he should come out for a cross or not for example, uncertain whether to come out or not for that 2nd goal or not at Hull and perhaps delayed it. I don't know maybe he's just getting old like all of us, but he could of read or heard of the unecessary abuse and his game suffered from it which of course doesn't help us. He got nearly all the blame for his flap at Plymough, while for me Albert was equally at fault for not reacting quick enough and clearing that for another corner. Hope he's not getting it at the games.

Time to finish with the Dunne experiment?
at 08:41 15 Apr 2024

I think we should continue to use Dunne at RB, or at RCB if we go with a back 3, but there maybe some opponents like Hull where Cannon is a better option at RB.

Thought Cannon was pretty good Saturday too. Hopefully he was able to spend the time he's been out recovering from the groin (?) Injury he was supposed to have been playing with. He looked fit enough at Hull anyway.
