| News Comment | Keep It Simple, Play Your Best Players, Change Little ! Is The Message To Southampton at 14:15:23
Rather contradictory read that Nick. You state we should play the same team that beat Leeds but then say we should play four at the back when against Leeds we played 5-3-2 or in possession 3-5-2. Fraser didn't start either. He's been proven to be an excellent sub yet not such a good starter. I suspect Martin will play the same team but the question will be whether we end up playing into West Broms hands who we've beaten twice playing 4-3-3. |
| News Comment | Russell Martin Admits He Won't Change Tactics Or Drop Jack Stephens at 11:24:18
Well I'm sticking with the manager and his choice in player selection. If he sticks with Stephens or brings Manning back in it's fine by me. Stephens was MOTM against Boro and arguably one of our better players against Ipswich. No one played well against Blackburn. Manning if everyone remembers is prone to more errors leading to goals. He's a decent enough player on the ball and offers more natural width compared to Stephens, so I guess RM has to decide if he prefers (Stephens) more leadership and physicality and midfield link up play, or width to support the winger ( Manning). Manning is ok.. ish |
| News Comment | Southampton V Hull City The Verdict at 16:51:42
Smallbone was played out of position. He's never a defensive midfielder. I don't see why Martin put him there. I believe he's scored more goals than Flynn Downes or Stuart Armstrong. Smallbone is a number 8 and that's it. For me it was the lightweight midfielders offered no outlet for our struggling defence against an excellent Hull press. . Should have played Charles or Aribo instead of Rothwell |
| News Comment | Southampton At West Bromwich Albion The Verdict at 00:07:22
They'd won 5 on the bounce at home and scented blood after our defeat at Bristol City, but when Corberan got sent off it felt like a momentum shift. Armstrong A was the only poor performer. Armstrong S MOTD. |
| News Comment | January Transfer Window Mixed Bag For Southampton at 11:21:51
One day Nick Jack Stephens will depart this club and once the celebrations have ended you can stop "shoehorning" your articles about the fact you don't rate him. I think we we get it now mush! Holgate wasn't very good in general when he played. But he would obviously not be content in being a 4th choice CB at a Championship club. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Watford The FA Cup Preview at 10:45:54
They've brought back Den Dennis on loan from Forest. If he plays, I've got a feeling he'll tear us a new ars* hole. Back where he felt wanted.. Loved. Top player on his day. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Sheffield Wednesday The Verdict at 11:35:54
I Understand why you picked A. Armstrong as the MOTM, and there were plenty of other worthy contenders. I though Smallbone was excellent and it was nice to hear Martin single him out in the post match interview. |
| News Comment | Mason Holgate Departure From Southampton Dependent On Everton Financial Demands Being met. at 17:23:13
As Nick says the manager will have his favourites, as all managers do. This applies to Ryan Manning , not popular with a big chunk of the fanbase but rated by Martin. Personally I tend to go with the view that I may have my opinion on players but I suspect the manager knows more about them and how they fit into the style of play and their character than we will ever know. |
| News Comment | Southampton Come Through December Period Strong & Getting Stronger at 17:25:33
Nothing wrong with fans voicing their concerns or being critical of players on forums like this. In the stadium it's a different matter. You back the players 100% during games, if not then you cannot describe yourself as a fan as it doesn't make sense to me to make the very people you are hoping to deliver a win feel bad about themselves. They sadly do exist though... Normally arms folded and awaiting the first mistake or sideways pass to set them off. I appreciate tension at a game can bring out the worst in people. It just amazing to me that some long time fans in particular dont realize that you can't have it all your own way in a game of football. Sometimes the pesky opponents want to try and stop us and win the game as well!! |
| News Comment | Southampton V Plymouth Argyle The Verdict at 14:31:02
Nice match report Nick. It's good to see Edozie getting back and defending as it was his achilles heel in earlier performances. Great time to be a Saints fan, I'm loving it. To echo San Marco, thankyou to Nick for running this site and all the best to my fellow posters. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Plymouth Argyle The Preview at 09:59:23
Patience could be keying this game. Nine goals scored and none conceded in our last two home matches will likely mean we'll be facing a massed defence and the potential of alot of sideways passing and probing which I appreciate is to not everyone's taste. Im a little worried that their winger Whitticker (12 goals) will get behind our defence on the counter... 2-2 tonight for me. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Queens Park Rangers The Preview at 10:11:19
Nick, I'm not quite sure why you keep on mentioning the subs in the Blackburn game. We were 2 nil up when we made changes. We finished the game 4 nil plus a missed penalty. What exactly is the issue? |
| News Comment | Southampton V Cardiff City The Verdict at 20:37:40
Most enjoyable game I've been to this season. We were so confident and you could sense the players were in total control. Always good to see our more vilified players beginning to play well and silence the critics...i include myself. Manning, Aribo and to a lesser extent Mara all did well yesterday. |
| News Comment | Southampton V West Bromwich Albion The Verdict at 12:40:21
Great result and a decent performance. We missed Smallbone when he went off and conceded control of the midfield to a big , strong side . The only player who disappoints me is Sulemana, he should be getting on the scoresheet and creating more with his pace. Blimey where have all the frothers n foamers and the moaners n groaners gone? Come and enjoy the party lads!! |
| News Comment | James Bree Proves That The Depth Of The Squad Is Vital For Southampton at 18:23:48
Bree has done well. Solid but unspectacular. Interesting to see what happens when Larios finally regains match fitness. I agree that Manning gets alot of unfair stick, he would look alot better with a back three protecting him and then he can show his attacking strength down the left side.. |
