Lower Loft safe standing
at 08:37 28 Jul 2023

I'm thinking of taking a friend to a game and thought the safe standing in the Lower Loft would be a good experience. Was wondering what the vibe down there is . Do people stand anywhere or are you expected to go to your 'seat'?

Travel advice - Scotland (Non QPR)
at 10:06 15 Jul 2023

Good people of Loft for Words, I need to tap into your collective knowledge…

I’m travelling to Scotland with the family at the end of August and would be grateful for any tips or suggestions of places to visit/see. We’re planning to rent a car, but would also consider trains if there are any scenic routes?

Thanks in advance.

Music debate...
at 13:44 18 May 2023

I know this forum is full of music heads so I thought I'd put this question to you...

Do you agree with David Bowie's view on the Beatles? - See video below:

I think the Beatles are massively overrated. They've got some great songs/albums, but Bowie is right, you don't see their influence in modern music. So much better stuff going on when the Beatles were around.

QPR ask fans to take blood stem cell donor test
at 12:19 19 Aug 2022

Just seen this in the Guardian:

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/aug/19/qpr-ask-fans-to-take-blood-stem

A family friend of Jimmy Dunne needs an urgent bone marrow transfer. There will be a test centre outside the ground ahead of the game on Saturday.

If you're going Saturday please consider taking the test.

QPR history
at 10:47 17 Jul 2022

I’ve been working my way through ‘Inverting The Pyramid -The history of football tactics’ and I came across a bit of QPR history. A little bit tenuous, but note worthy…

Billy Barnes was the second manager of Athletic Bilbao (1914-1916 & 1920-1921) and led the team to two Copa Del Ray’s before WW1 and 1 Copa Del Ray after.

He made 234 appearances for the R’s.

Fred Pentland (also a former R) managed Athletic Bilbao (1922-1925) and also won the Copa Del Ray.

Anyone read 'inverting the pyramid' by Jonathan Wilson?

Thinking of getting it to take on my upcoming holiday and was wondering what those who read it thought of it.

New Kit for Saturday -
at 14:20 14 Jan 2022

That's right, we'll be wearing a commemorative kit marking 140 years since the founding of the club:

I think it's a very nice kit.

‘Proper club’
at 10:20 12 Dec 2021

Does anyone know what fans mean when they refer to a football club as being a ‘proper club’?

What is the criteria? Always seems to be northern fans talking about other norther clubs. Or a club that once won something but have been put into administration/had points defected/been caught for cheating/despite having a relatively large fan base/ground have spent far less time in the top flight then their fans would lead you to believe.

Greatest band/artist you’ve seen play live…
at 20:32 12 Oct 2021

I watched a really good documentary about Nirvana’s first UK tour and it got me thinking about how all the great bands stated life doing small gigs and for the fans attending it must have been a great buzz being at the start of something special.

So which great bands/artist have you seen play live either at the beginning of their career or in their prime?

I’m sure some of you must have some great stories.

Ticket question…
at 22:14 30 Sep 2021

Hi all, quick question about tickets…

Is it possible to ‘upgrade’ my season ticket and sit in a different seat for a game? Pay the difference and free up my usual seat?

I have a friend who wants to come to the Preston game and there are no free seats around me.

Thanks!

Did anyone buy a shirt in the flash sale?

Don't normally go in for these things but bought the away shirt. The kits are great this season.

Lockdown book thread -
at 14:46 18 Jan 2021

I thought it might be a nice to have a book thread where we share what we've been reading and to use as reference point for anyone looking for inspiration for their next read.

To kick things off...

1: London Review of Books -

I've got a yearly subscription. It's long-form journalism, covers a broad range of topics. If you enjoy current affairs and want something more substantial than what you get in the papers go for it.

2: Long Walk to Freedom - Nelson Mandela

I've been meaning to read this for a long time. My wife bought it for me for Christmas. Despite it's length, it's very readable and seems to have been written to suit a broad range of reading abilities.

3: Waterlog - Roger Deakin

A non fiction journal about outdoor swimming in the UK.

Millwall vs QPR (Match Thread)
at 09:53 8 Dec 2020

Venue: The Den
KO: 19:45
Form: QPR D/W/L/L/L Milwall D/D/D/L/L

Big game for us tonight and a good opportunity to get 3 points on the board.

Millwall haven't won since October and their form isn't improving. I think tonight will be a case where fans in the ground are a disadvantage to the home team.

Despite our inconsistent form, we know this team can play very well, plus Millwalls form means I'm feeling confident.

3-1 Rangers with a late consolation goal from Wall.

Looking really spiff in these pictures:

Does make you wonder why we've found it so difficult and if we will ever get a new ground.

It's was a miserable day and I remember the Stoke fans singing that awful Delilah song then we scored and everything went our way! A good win for us.

Chelsea, Putin and dirty money
at 12:09 14 Apr 2020

Had to laugh when I came across this quote from a book review in the Guardian today:

Belton’s analysis is relentless and convincing. There are gobsmacking moments. According to Sergei Pugachev, a one-time government insider now in oligarch exile, Putin personally directed Roman Abramovich in 2003 to buy Chelsea Football Club. The objective was to raise Russia’s profile, with the elite and with ordinary Brits, Pugachev says. The acquisition was part of a bigger infiltration of the west by Moscow, via dirty cash. “It was as if a virus was being injected,” Belton writes

I'm certainly no fan of Chelsea, but this is pretty deep, haha
