The galling thing is that the team selected today forms the nucleus of the team we expect to secure the retention of league 1 status. I accept cup upsets happen, but we were utterly inept and it does not bode well. [Post edited 7 Nov 2020 21:15]

Actually thinking about this I recall one of their fans telling me they never saw Dale as a rival because we never brought a crowd to them. Maybe TVOS can comment on the numbers we did take? No doubt less than theirs to us but surely not equivalent to a Tuesday in Torquay.
The same fan said he saw Bradford as more of a rival because they took more fans to Stockport. Good job they can likely renew their friendship next season eh. | | | |

We’ve had some decent cup runs in recent years but only after sneaking through the earlier rounds in some cases.
We could so easy have been embarrassed by Wrexham and Boston last year and only just survived when playing the likes of Gateshead, Aldershot and Maidstone in previous seasons.

Our luck ran out today.
Quite frankly, as soon as their second goal went in I feared the worst. I just don’t think we have the creativity to score two goals in a game, let alone a third with the team we fielded today.

With respect, I think the difference is today we were the favourites. In the majority of league games we’re the underdogs. Stockport started off like a runaway train today but from about 30 minutes onwards they put 10 men behind the ball and literally just defended. In the league teams will attack us more aggressively, meaning more openings at the back. I can’t honestly remember a league game where we’ve had to actually break down a team like we had to against Stockport today.
We didn’t lose today because of poor defending or lack of the ball, it was simply because we couldn’t break them down. I’m not worried. | | | |

What was particularly annoying though was the inability on many occasions to play a simple ball to feet. Instead, we resorted to long-ball tactics which simply played into their hands. The one time Morley had the chance to make a decent ball into the box he almost set up Matty Lund, but for far far far far far far too long (and in every game) he's been pinned back in a defensive role. It's just bollox, and i'm tired of watching talent going to waste
Edit: and if you look at the pace with which County moved the ball early on, that's the way it should be done at our level and they put us to shame. Our passing was slow, predictable, inaccurate and lacking in passion or energy

The rules aren't as strict as you think. Only need four qualifying players. They are in top 10 appearances this season, plays the previous or next game, has forty or more career appearances, is on loan from a category 1 academy. Think this season we'd struggle to break the rules to be honest 😂.
Full rules and wording below in case I've translated incorrectly.
7.3 Each EFL Club shall play its Full Available Strength in and during all Matches. Full Available Strength means the EFL Club must include at least four Qualifying Players in the ten outfield Players named in the starting eleven on the Team Sheet.
7.4 Qualifying Player means any Player who:
7.4.1 had started the immediately preceding First Team Fixture (as defined below);
7.4.2 subsequently starts the immediately following First Team Fixture;
7.4.3 is in the list of ten Players at the Club with the highest number of starting appearances in First Team Fixtures in the same Season;
7.4.4 has made forty or more starting appearances in First Team Fixtures or international equivalents (and not limited to the same Club or Season); or
7.4.5 is on standard loan from a Premier League Club or any EFL Club operating a Category One Academy.
