I think it is an embarrassment to lose, especially at home to a non league team, and even more so in a local derby, with a crap performance, however due to all the circumstances, it might not be a bad thing, in the sense it might be helpful in our league campaign to finish comfortably in mid table rather than batting all season in a relegation scrap. I have every confidence on what I have seen up to now this season we can finish mid table, probably in the lower end. |  |

Me too. We used to have a terrible record against non league teams, though maybe it seemed worse than it was when we lived through it. Yes in recent years we have done relatively well in the FA Cup. That’s the beauty of the Cup, so called shock results are not really shocks. Doesn’t take away though from the fact it wasn’t a good performance from us and it was a truly awful result, which football wise spoilt my Saturday. | |

With reference to Rooney’s goal I was talking to a neighbour who is a junior coach after Roofe scored a similar goal for Rangers in the Europa League last week.
He reckoned that we are going to see a lot more long range attempts like that simply as teams are trying to counter a high press with defenders keeping a high line and keepers patrolling on the edge of the penalty area. If the keeper has to stay nearer to his line then the whole team has to drop deeper. The game is constantly evolving tactically.
Coming from City Bazunu has been schooled in the concept of the sweeper keeper of course.
And I was in the cemetery (not the pub obviously) in the second half and we could hear quite clearly every announcement over the PA. “How do you put up with that racket when you’re actually inside the ground?” was my wife’s innocent question. | | | |
