I genuinely believe last night was one of those watershed moments that a lot of us will look back on with great pride & will be talked about in many pubs around the borough for many years to come.
A huge thanks must go to the Trust & Col for all their hard work in recent weeks which have enabled us to arrive at the turning point we are now at.
All I could think about throughout the 5 hour marathon last night was Bury.
Bury fans & shareholders sat in meetings very similar to what we experienced last night yet few chose to act in the decisive manner that the Dale family did.
Trevor Butterworth giving it to the board & calling them a shambles was amazing.
Graham Morris attempting to be a saviour of the club for the umpteenth time.
C E Lord holding the incompetent buffoons' to account & taking no prisoners with his questioning.
There's too many to mention but today is truly a proud day to be a Dale fan & everybody involved should rightly feel elated. |
I can only echo that. The final paragraph is particularly pertinent; with an emphasis on EVERYBODY involved.
The Dale Trust may have been the vehicle for securing the EGM, but the combined efforts of existing DT board members and a collection of individuals (some DT members, others who weren't) who worked their bollocks off is what delivered this result.
There may be run ins with people on here, there may be jousting on social media, but there is a common bond that exists within those of us that are dyed in the wool Dale fans. People will pull together. Thanks to those individuals involved, I feel this is just the beginning of increased involvement from a skilled and experienced fanbase. |  | | |

Match Report on Last Nights EGM
The majority of Shareholders lined up against a limp looking Board side. The ever hard working Trust set the tone early on, 4 motions dismissed within the opening minutes. This knocked the Board further onto the back foot, with Bottomley and Rawlinson in particular looking past their sell by date.
As the game progressed it was clear that class and integrity are indeed permanent, form ( and position) are temporary. Step forward JOHN SMALLWOOD, who with his action of resigning over various contracts / employment issues showed his integrity, then with a few deft comments showed his class by asking question of the Boards FD regarding numbers, Pockney was left floundering in his attempt not to let his Captain Bottomley down, but it was too late, Smallwood landed a critical blow for integrity and transparency - a lesson Pockney will need to learn very quickly if he is to survive at this level.
As the Shareholders retook control of the Club ( and the game) it was left to a long time Dale fan from a previous era to show the new boys and a few of the old boys how it should be done. The Overcoat men pondered, and sighed, but TRACKSUITMAN TREVOR BUTTERWORTH drove Shareholders forward with passion and intelligence. A man few have heard speak before as he keeps his words for behind closed doors, but bye heck, did the folk of Rochdale AFC see how things used to be run when BANGER BUTTERWORTH was around. The hairs on the back on my neck are still standing on end hearing him say " its not Man Utd, its Bloody Rochdale", " you should all be ashamed". A great performance from a classy man.
Butterworth was clearly riled by the Board and was more than up for the challenge, perhaps he was also showing the Overcoat Men that they were not the only players in Dales survival over many years

To expand on your point, Briels, whilst the Dale Trust was the mechanism for fans having a voice I think I am right to say that the number of voices the Trust represented is many more than the shareholders and understandably, not every shareholder will always be a member of the Trust or vice versa.
Last night the Trust proved the value of a Trust in a football club as operates in other clubs.
I do hope this paves the way for the Trust organisation to be allowed to play a more structural role rather than be seen as a stakeholder group that sits on the periphery and is seen as a nuisance by those running the club to be held at arms length. | |

To this day it’s still quite sad that the Bury situation was allowed to develop by such a disjointed fanbase who had their own views and egos which got in the way of what mattered. There was a genuine amount of support from plenty of Dale fans as well who offered suggestions of how to progress whether that be challenging their own Supporters Trust to be more transparent and follow agreed processes or documenting all involvements with the club, and there were some Shakers fans who wanted to do this. But too few. Those at Forever Bury at the time who decided this wasn’t the sort of route they wanted to follow will look on today and realise how what happened to them never needed to reach the point it did. |  |

The irony of that comparison 442 is that Forever Bury's biggest mistake was to entrust their shareholdings with individuals who did not have their best interests at heart whereas last night's events saw the complete opposite position.
There was a gentleman last night who made the point along the lines of "What happens if the shares are sold for £4m and we don't like the outcome? It's not as if a couple of Dale fans can then go an buy them all back."
Shareholders are the most powerful of all people in a business and they rightly call the shots. In our instance the crossover between shareholders who are fans and fans who would like to become shareholders is fortunately very high. | |

The sobering lesson in all of these lost clubs, including bury is once it is lost it is gone forever. There is no way back.
We are lucky (for now) that we have avoided that type of situation but should not, as a club or individuals rest on our laurels. | |

Hard to disagree with that BR after last night. Call it loyalty, discretion or whatever you want, there’s no doubt in my mind he could have spilled the beans last night but he didn’t and that’s why I said misplaced. Maybe he was bullied/threatened/isolated and felt that he couldn’t stand up to his “seniors” Either way I think he’ll reflect on last night / last couple of years and think that he could have done better. What I would say is that in Kelly’s absence (said to be on medical grounds but that sounded a bit too convenient for me) TP stepped up to the plate and fronted it all - I still think he’s a good guy - my opinion.
As somebody said what was really disappointing but not surprising was that DB cowardly sat there without publicly stating the facts and let others try to gloss over it. Thankfully we could all see through it. |

We should all listen to The Price of football podcast tomorrow, we are first on the list.
Worryingly enough they talk about Matt Southall and Glenn Thomas as investors.
Thomas was at the head of Bury's demise with Stewart Day and the guy who brought in Steve Dale. Highly recommend people google him.
As for Matt Southall 'Football agent'? You may remember put an expensive penthouse and range rover on Charltons costs while getting his collar felt and a £21,000 fine for doing illegal things with the clubs status [see link below]
