2022-2023 Squad 00:29 - Apr 10 with 62542 viewsHullDale

Just had a quick look at the squad, and who is contracted for next season:

Contracted for 2022/23
Sam Graham - Summer 2023
Max Taylor - Summer 2023
Aidy White - Summer 2023

Liam Kelly - Summer 2023
Conor Grant - Summer 2023
Jimmy Keohane - Summer 2023
James Ball - Summer 2024
Ethan Brierley - January 2024

Abraham Odoh - Summer 2023
Luke Charman - Summer 2024
Tahvon Campbell - Summer 2024

Out of Contract
Joel Coleman
Jay Lynch
Brad Wade

Jim McNulty
Eoghan O'Connell
Jeriel Dorsett (loan expires)
Joe Dunne
Corey O’Keeffe
Paul Downing (loan expires)
Max Clark

George Broadbent (loan expires)
Stephen Dooley
Alex Newby

Josh Andrews (loan expires)
Danny Cashman (loan expires)
Matt Done

10 players contracted, 17 either out of contract or loan expiring. I half expect us to try and sign Broadbent & Dorsett permanently, but one thing is for certain - 2022/2023 will be a fully Stockdale squad. Out of everybody in contract for next season only Keohane & Grant are survivors from the BBM era! Hopefully the rumoured increased playing budget, coupled with a more settled club and experience from this season, will see a more competitive team next season.

Check out his goal at the end. A thing of beauty. Must be a contender for goal of the season for the Youth Team?

Blimey, that is some serious ball control. Absolute quality!

Robbie’s shopping list-
Commanding keeper who back 4/5 have confidence in.
Ditto centre halves x2
No nonsense ball winning centre mid. Build a team round this core.
If we recruit well we could go through this league like a knife through butter. I haven’t seen a single team that’s come to spotland & outplayed or outclassed us.

"Subject to final league positions, the club expects contingent transfer fee receipts before the end of the current financial year from three clubs for previously divested players following the achievement of performance-based milestones for those players and clubs. Those receipts will be deployed into the playing squad for next season."

So we are up to 17 and a half ( McNulty being the half). So maybe another 5 needed? A left back ( inevitably), a right back, a winger, another attacking midfielder and a utility player if such a thing exists these days. These might be loans and consequently younger players, a real coup would be to be get Dorsett back for another season as well.

I'd say we need at least one centre-back, if not two. Graham isn't up to it, McNulty should be a last resort and while Taylor could still improve, he isn't good enough to be a starter for me. Think Dorsett will step up to L1.

Give Graham a chance judge him after the preseason...

Another GK, LB, CM,

I thought that Thomas would have signed by now and i would not be surprised if he moves on....

Think we'll see the fruits of a season under his belt with Taylor. He had an uncertain start (and the own goal in the centenary game maybe knocked his confidence a bit) but when he came back from injury, there were clear signs to me that he'd started to get the measure of what's required

If EOC goes, i could easily envisage a partnership between him and EEL developing. If RS brings in another CB with the intention of that player being the starter (which he might still do), imo it'd set Taylor back from becoming a main course

On the CB position think we could do with a left footed centre back that's going to start games. Dorsett replacement.

On top of that we need a LB and RB.

Ideally a GK, and a couple of more creative midfielders.

I also feel like RS will want another big striker as a target man option.

He seems to lack concentration more than anything, loses his man easily and gets sucked into challenges he has no real chance of winning and was still making those mistakes towards the end of the season (the Exeter and Bristol Rovers defeats stick out as example). That said, I'm more than happy to admit I'm probably wrong about him as it seems a lot of people have seen more potential in him than I have personally.

Again, hopefully I'm proven wrong but I really wouldn't be too comfortable starting the season with four central defenders and three of them being Taylor, Graham and McNulty. Even if the plan is to make Taylor first-choice, it only takes one long-term injury the weekend after the window closes and we're stuck with Graham or McNulty starting for four months.

And that's all if we go away from the back three - there's no guarantee that RS is set for a tactical rethink this summer. After all, there seems to be a consensus that we went with that formation last season due to the players available (Corey/EOC/Clark maybe?) but he did offer those players new contracts.

Tangled up in blue.

With Brierley, Kelly and Grant, we don’t need another creative midfielder at the moment. Dooley going and Diagouraga signing immediately shifted the lopsided nature of the types of player we had in midfield and to add more would muddy the waters at the moment and restrict Brierley’s progression. Worth looking at again if Kelly were to leave. If it’s a midfield three, right now that would be Diagouraga, Ball and Grant for me with Brierley ahead of Kelly as an option if Grant is used as a wide forward.

I'm hopeful of a return to form for Kelly. He was superb when he first arrived. Like many creative players, he got scouted and closed down. Not good in a team lacking in physicality. With Ball and Diagouraga available, he may get the protection he needs in order to get back to his best.

My half would be Scanlon at this stage of his career .

Personally , assuming O'Connell goes and hoping Thomas signs my priorities would be a RB , LB , 2xCB's , and another quick wide midfielder/forward . I think that would provide a squad complement of 22(?) which still feels light for a full season so 2/3 extra bodies would probably be required by the close of the window .

Ebanks-Landell is the replacement for Dorsett and Rodney is 6 foot 2 so could be classed as a target man option.

We need two full/wing backs and then a least one centre back to partner Ebanks-Landell.

The rest of the recruitment probably depends on what formation Stockdale wants to play. If he wants 352 then we would need more centre backs, but if he is looking at some form of 433 then maybe another wide player to complement Grant and Odoh. I would be happy with Taylor as a back up option.

I'm not sure if another goalkeeper will be brought in, especially not on a permanent deal.

We may well be looking at wing backs again next season - those capable of both stepping into midfield and getting back to defend. Could be that the loan market provides at least one of these positions due to the calibre of the player needed to fill these roles not being readily available in our budget range.

Disagree I think Ebanks Landell is a replacement for Downing and potentially O'Connell. Right sided.

We've got 3 tall strikers in Rodney, Campbell and Charman but I don't see any of them as a true target man. I wouldn't be bothered if we didn't but just have a feeling RS will be tempted by someone in the mold of Andrews.

Agree with the formation and the goalkeeper can see a loanee keeper coming in.

We'll see soon enough.

From what I can gather the first team are back in for the start of preseason training tomorrow.
Earlier than usual but the season begins sooner this time around.
Presumably EOC will to have to be there as technically he’s under contract until the end of the month.

Good point

Maybe he's waiting to see how things look with new additions to the squad before making a decision?

If he has an early 'injury' we'll know the score

Would that be a similar scenario for Peter Thomas or maybe his deal is a bit different?

I don't know anything about PT but others on here rate him highly......what is the latest on this fellow?

I can't think of any Dale youth players that have turned down a pro contract and gone on to do better elsewhere. Anyone else?

There's been some leave while they've been YTS like Ronan and Bywater I think. I can think of Hogan who wasn't offered a pro contract but has gone on to do well including returning to Dale.

When I think of people who rejected a pro contract I can only really think of Florent Hoti who was quite recent and hasn't really been successfully, 22 appearances in 3 seasons.
