Was watching myself up till Carlisle went ahead with an awful mistake from Scunthorpe's keeper. Considering its 3rd v 4th there isn't a lot of quality on show. Dale and York seem to be streets ahead of the rest.

Carlisle look the better team from what I've seen (since 30 min). Edit - and they score to make it 2-1 [Post edited 10 Feb 21:02]

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Carlisle United on 21:53 - Feb 10 with 2000 views | griff | I have to agree. We look agricultural compared to yourselves and York and we’re just trying to get past the injuries and illnesses and get the best playoff place we can. Off to Forest green at the weekend to hopefully do us and yourselves a favour against Lily and his team who were poor losers at Brunton Park. Please give him sone stick tomorrow; I’ll be doing the same on Saturday. | | | |
| Refwatch - Rochdale v Carlisle United on 00:48 - Feb 11 with 1783 views | TalkingSutty | The first job for us is to secure a top three finish and a home draw to play at Wembley in the final. Scunthorpe losing last night was a great result for us in respect of that. Win tonight and that gap is a massive fourteen points. It's presure free football for us this, we can now have a real good go at winning the league, something nobody expected at the start of the season. If we pull up short we can beat anybody over two games in the play offs. The hurt from last seasons play off defeat is fuel for our players. Hopefully we'll win the league though. I like your thinking, but you're not kidding anyone with your pressure free football line! | | | |

Pressure free for the players now in relation to expectation before a ball was kicked? Play offs..expected. Top three finish..great effort. League Champions...unrealistic expectation. York City have the pressure. Budget wise, Carlisle, FGR, Southend would feel the pressure in the Play offs, they've all invested heavily. I don't sense any pressure around the club, the players or the fans. We're just over half way into the three year plan and on a steep upward trajectory, it wont take much more improvement i don't think. The players are invested into the managers style of play and they know that it wins a lot of games, that dispels pressure and nerves when they can trust in the process. We have too many good experienced players now to suddenly deviate from the plan and implode, we can still lose games though. Everybody fighting for a place in the starting eleven also keeps standards high. [Post edited 11 Feb 11:24]

It's one-off games, not over 2. 2nd/3rd for the home tie.

We have ticked a lot of boxes this year….the one remaining box to tick is winning the BIG games which means York Scunthorpe and play off games if necessary.

I think TS meant we would have to win two play-off games - semi-final and final.
| I'm not a maestro, far from it, but I just engage my brain before posting. |

I've said this before but if the title goes down to that final game then I wouldn't fancy the loser in the play offs at all. To pick everyone up after such a disappointment would be incredibly tough. If the title has been decided well before that then yes I'd fancy York or Dale to win the playoffs.

That's not what i said. Finishing 2nd or 3rd gives you a home play off game. If you win that game you are in the final at Wembley.

I'd argue we've already proven we can win big games this season. We've done the double over Carlise and BW, beat Southend and FGR. All big games those. Play off games are impossible to predict but i think these players are battle hardened now and somebody will have to play well to beat us in one off games.

Apologies, I read this as beating a team over 2 games. "we can beat anybody over two games in the play offs"

Quite honestly, it's not something i'd want to see put to the test I agree we're stronger mentally than last season. We've reacted well to our very few defeats, and won some of the key league fixtures against rivals (but not York...) What we haven't done, and didn't do last season, is win a game that we HAD to win, and that includes the key cup fixtures The only thing we should be even thinking about is not having the psychological twist of not finishing top when our current position and games in hand provide the opportunity to achieve that

No harm in discussing different scenarios, whether that be winning the league or the play offs. That's what happens on football forums. We are more than capable of winning either but it's football and anything can happen. I'm confident we will make the play offs at the moment.
