....over in Stratford. Hurry up and pay for more policing will ya. Again disturbances between 'new' and old fans inside the ground and a good old school brawl with Boro outside.

The whole thing is a disgraceful waste of public money. Quite why you and me have to pay a single penny for West Ham 's football ground is quite appalling.Brady being a Tory member/ supporter has surely got nothing to do with it? As usual, the Tories get off Scot-free because of their friends in the gutter press.

Technically speaking it's not West Ham's ground, they just rent it (similar to Italian clubs who rent from the Council) but the deal was so appalling done (in terms of the taxpayer, bloody goo deal for WHU), West Ham are paying tuppence for something they should pay a heck of a lot more for to reimburse what the taxpayers have paid for upfront.

I am not sure Brady's connections with the government are the actual cause of the problem.

To me it seems more about the government sparing no expense on trying to hide its white elephant.

Brady and friends merely took what was on offer.

The real waste is not simply the money, its that the money has produced something so unfit for purpose.

This is pretty astonishing...

'The cost of moving rows of seats from football mode to accommodate the running track, and back again, every summer has soared from an estimated £300,000 to an extraordinary £8m.'

'It soon became clear it would take at least 15 days to remove the lower tiers, even with a team of labourers working 24 hours a day, and the same again to put them back.'

They (as in all of them inc. the Olympic Legacy (sic)) would rather waste £millions than admit they made a mistake. Then they'll go onto some other big project and do it all over again.

Those brilliant retractable seats that allow the crowd to sit within 50 yards of the pitch.... Money well acquired!

What a fantastic fuc k-up. A £750m stadium gifted to a football club owned by multi-multi-millionaires (and cun ts with it) for the princely sum of £15m up front and £2.5m a year, which probably barely covers the running costs, Orient end up with a much bigger club moving into their tiny catchment area, the stadium is reportedly utterly sh it for watching football from the vast majority of seats, and presumably West Ham also got to keep the proceeds from the sale of the Boleyn? I enjoyed the Olympics, but no wonder cities are dropping out of bidding for them when the reality is that you’re either left with a series of white elephant arenas or you have to give the fuc king things away for peanuts. Whoever negotiated this deal with West Ham should be hanged, drawn and quartered. The fu cking cheek of Londoners having to subsidise a Premier League club to the tune of millions every year — never mind the gifting of the stadium — is an absolute scandal. A pox on the cu nts.

That's not the point - there are rules about other clubs not being able to encroach upon other club's grounds - Stratford is just down the road from Leyton and makes life for Orient that much harder with West Ham giving away tickets for two bob - which they can afford to do because they've been gifted a 60,000 stadium and because they're in the PL. If you're prepared to sit eight miles from the pitch at the Olympic stadium it's probably cheaper than going to the Orient and obviously you get to watch Premier League football too, so Orient are stuck more than ever with relying almost entirely upon their existing fanbase to carry the tradition on through their families.

Unfortunately money talks very loudly in football. If you've got it you can do whatever you want to.If you're plotless don't ask for any favours or handouts,or even fairness.

'The Observer understands West Ham United’s new home, now renamed the London Stadium until a long delayed and increasingly elusive naming rights deal can be struck, was originally projected to be making a seven-figure operational surplus by the time it reached a “steady state” in 2018-19. It was on those projections that the case for the £752m stadium was made — that even at the favourable terms awarded to West Ham, the plan was the best way of ensuring the venue did not have to be subsidised by the taxpayer in perpetuity.

But at the point at which the bill for moving the so-called retractable seats to host athletics and concerts in the summer rose from £300,000 to a staggering £8m per year, all those sums went out of the window. And at no point did those in charge give any indication to the wider world of the scale of the problem — or, indeed, that the “retractable” seating solution chosen was not a state-of-the-art arrangement of rollers and air beds but literally rested on scaffolding and breeze blocks.'

"It was on those projections that the case for the £752m stadium was made".

I've yet to see any projections made on anything on this scale actually come true. Everything is just hyperbole to get it rubber-stamped and by the time reality bites, it's too late.

And west ham have such a watertight contract that these losses will have to be covered by taxpayers for decades

and knocking it down wont be an option because the compensation to west ham will be astronomical.

Boris failed to even respond to the enquiry, how is he allowed to mooch about as foreign secretary

Lord Cole also declined to respond, how are these people even allowed to be walking around in society

Allowing politicians and sportsmen/women to run any type of major infrastructure project is bound to end up in failure. We never learn - just take a look at the NHS, Transport and Housing in this country. Cronic mis-management for well over 50yrs and all down to mainly useless fecking politicians like Boris Johnson.

west ham will have to pay more cos if ground closes where do they go? why should any more tax money fund them?
they have demolished the boleyn and will face a bill of £400m_+ to build a new gaff, if they find land and can get permission etc....this is clearly all the fault of qprdfc and we must be punished!

"west ham will have to pay more cos if ground closes where do they go? why should any more tax money fund them? "

The contract is watertight and West Ham are under no obligation to pay more, even if they should. The fault lies with the Olympic Legacy/Boris Johnson (and any other partners) who agreed to it.
This has now burdened the taxpayer further as they cannot close the ground as they'll be in breach of contract and West Ham will sue. Considering how inept the Stadium owners/the then Mayor of London have been, West Ham's solicitors will run rings around them, chew them up and spit them out.

There's a reason politicians aren't in the private sector.... they're simply not good enough.
