It should also be remembered Venables ripped up the football pitch, wrote a book called they used to play on grass and subsequently the ball hardly touched our new plastic pitch, equally we played a cynical breed of off-side that drew endless condemnation from football writes on Sunday morning.
This is without a doubt the toughest and most competitive league, for those with ambitions or with hopes to return to the Premiership it's a journey that threatens bankruptcy, humiliation and usually failure. For those who just want to remain in the division the same can apply or worse.
All the Clubs are threatened with Chinese or other eastern takeover and there lies any number of awful outcomes.
QPR are in a good place, we have realistic ambitions, we are aiming for some financial sobriety and sustainable business activity. Our losses will become manageable for our owners who seem to have adopted Hoo's as their advisor alongside Ferdinand and JFH.
As to JFH's quality, we can only wait and see, Football Managers are by nature failures, the nature of the competition and the job means that coaches and or Managers have little effect on actual results until you get to the top dogs, Jose, Conte, and whoever else is flavour of the month. Wenger is a failure! That's the measure of English Football....how can JFH be any different?
I'm enjoying watch JFH find his feet while the Club makes great progress at a Community level, I've never been embarrassed by QPR as a Club....that has changed but I'm beginning to forget and therefore beginning to forgive, however the juvenile, childish posturing of the new social media friendly fans do embarrass me. Of Course they have a right to an opinion, but sadly an opinion that postures a position of failure due to losing two football matches is hardly one of any merit or interest.....why bother...I suggest we all stop responding to these people and try and remember why we are proud of QPR and why, in the past, our fans where respected for their level of support balanced by a knowledge of great football.
Bowles, Givens, Francis, Thomas, Marsh, Currie these are players created and utilised by this Club, do we not recognise Sodipo, Cheri, Polter, Mass, Hall and others as being part of an ethos that admires skill attempting to be played out in very harsh and competitive circumstances...surely they deserve our critical support rather than a blanket " they are just not good enough" neither is the Manager, or the DOF or the Owners....its frankly pathetic and it's an opinion that is not worth listening to.
I sense pride in what Sir Les and JFH are attempting to achieve here, I think I hear it from
the players, with very little adjustment QPR could be unbeaten so far this year, it's easy with hindsight to see how and why....JFH and the Players will learn from both Barnsley and Preston, fitness and attitude will allow them to succeed or fail.....bring it On! |

Three entirely different types of player, who cannot really be compared.
What does bring them together is they demand the greatest respect for differing skill sets. What makes them similar is the effort they put into attempting to succeed both in careers and in each and every game they played.
With Sinton in the final third facing any number of defenders we knew a cross of real threat was coming over, the forwards could always make that run because they knew the cross was coming.
Ferdinand sent tremors of fear through defenders, pace, brilliant salmon like leap, intent and real skill.
Hasselbaink bought sheer strength of character to his game, no doubt created by the challenges he faced in carving out a career, it was almost like watching a boxer waiting to find the knock out punch, his shot had the power of the Muhammad Ali knock out, no back lift but the power was unquestionable.
The strength of these fellas characters if it can permeate down into the first team squad is probably our greatest quality.
It's not the buxxshxte of Redknapp but the real sinew, bone and muscle of match winners. Each and every one of these players would stretch acceptable levels of force to win individual battles, it is that McClintock, Clement, Venables, McDonald, Derry, Hill type character every club needs. The job needs to get done, we have the skill, now we need to be fit enough and willing enough to display without fear the will to go the extra yard....the signs are there in this squad, these three players will all recognise the signs....there might be the occasional risky decision but you never know your luck.....one or two punts is not a bad thing given current values/prices, turning a bad egg into a perfect soufflé is well worth the effort. We know who those players are, support Sir Lee and JFH in their efforts, it might takes two years but they will get there....look at Hall...even Onouha as a RB might make it if he's not exposed like a choir boy in the Vatican showers every Saturday afternoon....three great players, no comparisons other than they made the very best of what they where given. All make great you tube viewing....a lesson to every baller who still wants to learn and play. |

It's pretty clear what will happen if the UK abandons ship, how ironic that as a 1970's basket case we had to persuade the EU to let us in.
The markets are already making dollar from the terror tales, the pound is falling, really good for exports given we have a market.
The UK sells six times as much to the EU as we do to Brazil, Russia, China and India, five times as much to the 52 nations of the Commonwealth, we sell more services to Luxembourg than to India. Just how long will it take to rebuild export markets after exit.
This is not a matter of freedoms or democracy it's about the money.
The rich will feather their nests using global markets, the merely averagely well off will face higher interest rates, negative equity, loss of workers rights, loss of a functioning NHS.
The problems of the UK are created in the UK by our Government and Administrators not by The EU.
The EU must change, the open border Schengen deal must stop, but for control and administrative reasons not right wing paranoia.
The arguments have been directed away from why the EU hasn't performed for the UK as it has for Germany, France, Holland.
Our problems are structural and have been created by our Governments, lack of social affordable housing, underinvestment and semi privatisation of public services and infrastructure, weakened trade unions defending wages and working practices, failure to develop commercial viable local communities in the old industrial cities, failure to address differentials in women's and workers pay, especially that of CEO,'s bonus pay culture.
Our problems are seeded in the UK by, currently, Osborne and Cameron, they can only be righted in the UK.
This debate can only divide the nation into the suburban greying conservatives hoping for a return to a UK unblemished by mass immigration, decline, a UK not seen since the 1940's set against the poor who have faced the extreme changes to their communities and incomes.
The EU was designed to avoid this type of social schism, it gave us equal rights, courts to protect us, and a bill of rights,
The right wings view of the EU as a scheming corrupt, sinister anti democratic organisation is simply untrue, like any organisation it's needs change constantly, and no more so than now. Just in the same way as we allow our government to refuse pensions to Gurka's, refuse to assist homeless soldiers after Iraq and Afghanistan, allow developers to run rough shod over local planning concerns, allow developers to rig property values by land banking, allow multi-nationals to negotiate tax liabilities outside current tax laws, invade foreign countries, fail to provide education, health provision, ambulances, care for the mentally ill, leave our young with £30000 of debt the moment they start work, make families sell their homes to provide care in unsafe care homes.....our problems lie at home with our Government and the way they rule us not the EU....we are the Sports Direct of modern countries, ruthlessly managed by self interested zealots, a huge turnover, a great return for very few people as a result the hard work of a broken hearted work force.....
This is not the EU'S fault or Immigrants fault, it's Cameron, Osborne, the Bank of England, the Treasury and all their paid "independent" advisors....we need change but not one bought about by leaving the EU. For those who don't know the Home Office asked all the Think Tanks to report on the possible consequences of Brexit, 16% returned reports and it is those that appear as supporting arguments to remaining....they cannot even be honest about independent evidence or its reliability.
We do know what will happen; here's some obvious outcomes ;the pound will fall, some increase temporarily in exports, foreign capital will leave the UK, property prices will fall, tariffs will cause a fall in GDP with the EU, prices of food will increase as WTO tariffs affect our imports, austerity will increase and deepen, our next election will produce a hung parliament, major multi-nationals will rethink investment, international banking and services may rethink longterm plans and finally abandon London and Bournemouth wholesale.
We should be setting this debate in Strasbourg by bringing to the table the UN to introduce a pan-european solution to the economic migrant problem alongside a cessation of Schengen to deal with the movement of internal EU migration, it is of course 50/50 roughly.
This is a typical Cameron solution, lots of posturing and no real result, the remainers will prevail and the UK will have made no progress other than to further divide an already broken society of the haves and the have not. |

I don't fully understand the strategy in regard to Matty Phillips.
He's stopped winning matches or even threatening to, he's never really inspired confidence in his defensive duties.
Last night must be the end of the road, we are safe in the division, Phillips could be held responsible for having his role in all three goals, why do we need him play, why does JFH need to watch him play....if they let you down once, they will again.
Lets move on and begin to pick from a group of players that will start the season...surely dropping Phillips must be the start of that concept....if somebody tells me its about his transfer fee and good money management, i refer you to our TF's latest audited accounts. |

The problem is that our failings at Full Back are multiplied when Onouha goes awol on the left hand side, and with our wingers failing to cover two very average FB's most Championship managers and coaches can read how to play QPR....frankly its beginning to look like we've signed good First Division players to add to some competent Championship players....the first time we've seen long term planning for many years.
Trouble is JFH could keep us in this division...just! What then if we get a transfer banning order? |

That magical moment when a midfield player passes the ball with the correct pace so that it divides full back and centre half and continues with the correct pace to find a winger....and Ale Faurlin has that pass on record.....why, why, why do we have to wait so long for it to happen.
Polter would lap it up, its almost indefensible by Championship full backs, is it because its regarded as elegant and therefore has no role in the game?
Its subtle, skillful, its team play, it requires effort, intellectual diligence and a sure touch....so not good for football?
Ale Faurlin, in spite, of tragic disasters both personally and for having to suffer the management of the Club his contracted to is an example to all the players and most of us as individuals.
Maybe things might change...his efforts against Ipswich were of legend to my mind.... |

Don Masson did not need to tackle, nobody could tackle him, he was available in space throughout his career, the most extraordinary footballer who knew where the ball was going next before it arrived at his feet....Wilkins, Currie, Masson, how lucky we have been to see such players.
However if you did get to tackle Masson he became so furious that he would hunt you down and leave a little message that would leave a scar.

Its great to see young players get a chance, its part of the famed pathway. QPR is a Football Club in transition, naturally the concern is where the final destination is likely to be.
We've seen untold errors by Green in exactly the same position, ie, within 6-10 yards of the goal line and between the posts.
Lumley's error in not coming for the first ball does not make him a bad keeper with no future.
Onouha as Captain has a responsibility to help and protect the young keeper.
Sadly Onouha has long term problems of wandering around the pitch, ball watching and poor distribution. He cannot be trusted to improve his game let alone look after rookie keepers.
On balance QPR would be far better off with a keeper who can distribute the ball quicker and with some degree of pace and accuracy with the prospect of learning how to dominate the penalty box.
The positives in our defence are Hall and little else, having Smithies and Lumley taking over from Green right now must be another positive. |

Football Clubs enter into Contracts with Players in full knowledge of the outcome. That's particularly galling for Football Fans who always know better, usually in hindsight.
Charlie Austin will never be in a position where he morally or contractually owes QPR money.
The interesting aspect of the Austin story is that nobody wanted to sign him post medicals, questions will still hang over this issue until he goes for another medical.
Austin says he's not going anywhere until the summer, so he will be a free agent. So simply put his contractual obligations to QPR will be over.
QPR took a risk with Austin and he has given remarkable value.
Is there any reason to disbelieve Austin or Ferdinand? It might be possible that the Club feel it would be best to rest Austin until he's fully fit.
Recent performances are so poor, fitness and conditioning are so poor it would be a mistake to put Austin through an intense fitness program that might damage his long term fitness and next career move.
I'd suggest that Austin only wants to go to a Crystal Palace, Brighton, Southampton, possibly Norwich, ie a relatively, such as any club can be, safe mid table Southern Club.
Ripping us off...? No! Taking his career forward with some intelligent and careful management.. Yes!
Look to any of the other 60 - 70 players this Club has signed in the last 5 years if we need to find rip-offs...you'll find around 60 - 70 I should think, with players like Austin to be counted on one hand! |

Its not a fine, its a charge, Your Dad created a contract by parking wherever....unless he can prove the contract couldn't have been created....no visible sign...a charge must be reasonable.
I'd suggest he writes a registered letter enclosing a postal order in the sum of two hours car parking on the local street at Local Council Rates plus £5.00 admin.
Then point out that this is the local cost of car parking, any further correspondence will attract a £25.00 charge per letter.
A full and final offer.
Good Luck.
Its a civil matter! They don't want to go to Court. |

Exactly! We as supporters and Clubs should be able to improve refereeing....the argument is not about Referees failing to give punishment for offences they can NOT see but failing to give punishment for offences they can see.
Its difficult as the game gets quicker, its a long time since I played but it looks like the ball also moves quicker and not in a direction thats predictable....ask our much maligned keeper....
To me with the advantage of TV the hand ball was not deliberate....The linesman's angle was probably blocked by the players body....ball to hand...at pace...quite close.
For me the falling standards of refereeing is in failing to give the appropriate punishments for diving, shirt pulling and holding players at deadballs with the arms raised to hold players.
Referees are becoming cowards, they will give the foul for a raised arm or a hand that ends up on the opposing players shoulder in an aerial challenge....but Bruno can physically restrict Austins movement before and during a "Free-Kick" which in the ethic of football is given as an advantage having gained it fairly...Rubbish refereeing... |
