Email banking scam alert
at 09:31 14 Dec 2021

All,

Aware of a new fishing email banking scam doing the rounds. Obviously most IT literate folk know you should never click a link on an email purported to be from your bank, however there are some who still do.

They maybe older people, or those not familiar with the regular business bulletins you get alerting you to these kind of scams, so please make sure you remind those less IT literate folk, who may be more gullible thank yourself, not to be taken in by these scammers.

FAO TVOS - former player joe murphy
at 15:23 4 Jun 2017

TVOS - do you have any record of a Joe Murphy playing for sale in the 60 or 70's?

I am attending his funeral this week and he always said he was an ex pro with Dale so would be good to get any details to pass on.

Cheers

Groupon deal
at 16:07 23 Dec 2014

Not sure if the link works, but there is a groupon deal for hospitality at Rochdale that offers great value. Fair play for the Dale for using this method to attract folks on quieter games.

Rochdale and the Fijian links!

I think most Dale fans of a certain age will know at least one Fijian, here is the story of how they came to find a home in Rochdale.

Season ticket "sterling" sales
at 09:27 9 May 2011

Delighted that season ticket sales have reached new records, I read the article expecting to be reassured by the "sterling" work done to achieve this. However, it seems the "sterling" referred to is not that meaning, not is a slightly mispelled reference to Jeff Stelling, but a reference to the sales made in our currency.

Can we expect increased sales when the Malaysian Ringgit and Ecquadorian Sucre are counted to name but two potential non sterling sources? Maybe my Yorkshire pound will be classed as a different currency?

Rochdale and Deprivation
at 12:03 7 Apr 2011

Slightly off topic this, but I know we have people who are interested in these things and I have tried to explain what some of these facts mean for our club at the end of the note.

I have been having a look at the latest deprivation indices. They are released over 3 years and the 2010 figures have just been published.

The headlines do not make good reading and highlight the challenges our good town faces.

- Central and Falinge area is the 9th (11th in 2007) most deprived area in the country as a whole, out of over 32,000 individual areas that are monitored.
- Balderstone is the 19th (17th in 2007) most deprived in the country.
- Rochdale has 12 of its 135 areas in the worst 2% of areas in the country
- Only 1 area in Rochdale is in the top 10% of areas in the country, and that is Norden and Bamford.
- Central and Falinge is the 16th worst area for crime in the country (although Oldham has the top 3 spots and 3 in the top 10!!)
- Cenral and Falinge retains its top spot for the number 1 most deprived area in the country for unemployment, with Kirkholt getting an honourable mention as the 50th most unemployed place in the country (remember out of over 32000 individual places)
- Central and Falinge is also the number 1 poorest area in the country, with only Norden and Bamford getting into the top 10% wealthiest areas.
- To complete the picture, Central and Falinge is also the number 1 area in the country for health deprivation and disability. This could go some way to explaining why it is also the area with the highest unemployment in the country.

So folks, when we are looking at why the good folks of Rochdale do not attend football matches I think we have 2 key factors. 1) There are a large number of alternatives which dilute the potential customer base and 2) Rochdale has severe deprivation issues which inevitably lead to people being poor and not being able to afford the luxury.

Our town has an uphill battle both as a place to live, and also getting more bums on seats at our club.

Season Tickets
at 10:29 3 Aug 2010

I suppose the prospect of a season (or more hopefully) in Division 1 after 25 years of watching was enough to twist my arm and have just bought a season ticket!! Also, the prospect of many more all ticket games when I would not be able to get tickets in the week (shock horror Dale fan works away from Rochdale) means it was time to bite the bullet.

I am afraid the experience was not a great one, although speedily transacted, the website still has a message saying the phone lines are down (they are not) and of the 8 (eight) options available when you make the call, none of them are for the ticket office. Now I am no sales person, but I would have thought sales enquiries would have been higher up the list than Football in the Community when it comes to first impressions.

Then we have a £4 credit card charge and a £2 admin fee for applying over the phone. I can swallow the credit card charge (although I think for £4 I would absorb that cost) but the admin charge is taking the proverbial. How many of us get a 2p bag a TK Maxx?? It is the principal of the charge that people object to. If we are aiming higher then we must accept we are dealing with more people who do not live next to the ground and therefore the telephone or the web is the most convenient way to transact business. Charging those who you want to attract is not a good strategy.

Its easy to pick holes, and we are all experts, but the recent threads around the back office effectivness have been demonstrated to me. Things just needs to get more professional, it has an amateur feel.

I am sure everyone is doing their best, but in my view it is leadership, standards (attention to detail) and direction that need improving.

Roll on Saturday then we will have something football related to talk about!!
