Made my day
at 11:43 6 Feb 2021

He replied to me too! and I admit I got the same buzz from seeing his reply. He is truly one of my favourite players in my near 30 years supporting Dale, and someone who would thrive in our team just now.

Our lads never rush round the ref, even if hard done by, never try and con the Ref and just get on with it. I've played for senior school and university teams and of course things go against you now and then but that's sport, that's part of the game you play
So proud that our lads don't stoop to other teams levels, other teams that on paper should beat you anyway but still have to resort to, what is in effect cheating, to gain an advantage.

I'm not overly critical of Bastien and I get it that he's coming in from not much game time, I just thought, on the day, he lacked a wee bit of composure and was perhaps a bit off. On the whole, I thought we were really good. We looked like a team towards the same end
Preston looked like a group of good individuals and perhaps their extra levels of skill/ expertise got them over the line.

Think we can really take it up to 3rd of May....

Thought I'd post a few observations of the game. Despite a long old day on the road I was really impressed how our young, honest, hardworking team tried to play football and stood up to a team with probably 5-10 times our budget and resources. The defence was excellent, Cannon, TK, Bennett were standout for me. The only player I was disappointed with was Bastien but at no point did we look out of the game.

Joe Garner, what a shame. Obviously a talented footballer but how he can go home and feel proud of the way he conducts himself on the pitch I don't know. He probably doesn't care but I'd rather any of our lads to him, a poor professional who was embarrassing to watch. The occasion he screamed as he flew into the air was a joke. I made a similar noise last year when I tore my cartilage and had to go straight to AnE. Genuine pain. Awful player.

I think we just ran out of steam last 15 mins. I know a few folk were disappointed with the subs but Vincenti was probably knackered, was very surprised to see him start. Cannon, Tanser ran themselves into the ground and were knackered, that was obvious. Couldn't have asked anymore from our team. Brandy and RNL never got into it but credit to P NE as
It was probably the way they saw the game out that nullified them.

All in all, came away feeling a little disappointed with the result but proud of the team and a really good backing from us lot. Hopefully we can take it to the last game and I'll make the long trip to Barnsley.

"Number 1 is Gary Jones, number 2 is Gary Jones. ..." etc etc. Of course he's a bloody legend. I think some people on here just have contrary opinions to wind other people up and to provoke UNNECESSARY conflict. We can all debate his level of skill and limitations, which he undoubtedly had, but he will always be in my all time Dale 11. As Captain.

I actually can't believe what I'm reading. So few people look at the bigger picture, so many sounding like glory hunters. I live hundreds of miles away and due to work and family might get 3 games a season. Before that I'd be home and away no matter what the potential result might be. In fact pre 2000 when I was a regular I went to most games fearful of a spanking. That so called supporters are not attending or are thinking of not attending because we might get beat baffles me in the extreme.

I can't believe how so many are feeling so disillusioned. Do people really think that our club employees sit on their backsides doing nothing, happy about the attendance? Does Hilly not believe in his squad? Does Hilly really make decisions to annoy supporters? do me a favour.

Unless we get a financial backer we have to be realistic that consolidation and building slowly are the way forward. We will continue to sell our best players, we should try all we can to build our attendances but this again is a slow process and we should be patient. As a club we are never and should never chuck all our eggs in one basket in the hope of success. Obviously an attack on the play offs would be nice and the last few seasons have probably made us greedy for success but give me a few solid seasons in league 1 and a platform for the future and I'd snap your hand off.

Am I the only one worried?
at 06:53 15 Feb 2015

I'm optimistic because when we got promoted (unexpectedly!) Last season, I would have thought we'd have been in Leyton Orient's position now but we're not. I just don't see the point in being overly pessimistic. Admittedly I rely on this forum and my old man and the club twitter feed for my match reports so fair enough, I can't judge first hand the minutiae of our current performances but I'd like to think I see the bigger picture. Apart from Done it is the same squad that got us flying early doors this season so surely we should trust Hilly and the players that a couple of bad results are just that. I'm confident that we can still finish top half, which in my opinion would still be tremendous. There is no lack of ambition on my part especially given that my expectation for this season was to finish 5th bottom or better. No one could've expected we'd mount a play off challenge. Of course I HOPED we would. I still think there are far more reasons to be positive than some of the depressing folk on here. There are things that need sorted out with the team based on the last 2 performances but let Hilly get on with it. We can all manage from our armchairs, Hilly will have his reasons for selecting the teams he does. Conrad Logan got injured, Done was sold. Get over it and move on. Hilly trusts in his squad and so should we and if he feels we need to strengthen with loans I'm sure he's constantly working on it.

We'd be 9th and 2 points off the play offs with a win from our last 2. Chill out!

Not in the least bit worried. We're in a competitive league, we have the smallest budget and home crowds. We were punching above our weight and are probably finding our level. I'd be far more concerned if we couldn't find the net....
Our current blip is just that. If we'd won today or last week we'd be a good few places higher and would this thread exist if that was the case?
We need to keep the head as a club and fans. It would be great to mount a play off push. Loads of teams in and around the same points, loads of points to play for. Enjoy the ride! It's hard being an exiled fan who gets to 2 or 3 games a season reading these threads. So pessimistic, no need. Get behind the lads as I will do on Saturday for my first league game this season......

Done move confirmed
at 07:21 3 Feb 2015

We are a selling club! Anyone who thinks this sale shows lack of ambition is deluded. As a Dale fan of 22 years I'd rather us in the situation we are now, developing exciting players, moving them on for a good fee, sell on clauses etc. far preferable to the Barrow era of signing dross and watching players leave because they were either injured or bobbins.

Our young lads are showing they are up for the challenge of league 1. The timing of the sale and the destination are disappointing but I support Rochdale Football CLUB, that's not just turning up expecting to be entertained but to hopefully see sustainable relative success over the long term. Our current policy allows for this. There is no guarantee we would make the play offs with Done just as there's no guarantee we won't without him.

Personally I'm still excited about the last 3 months of the season, no less than I would've been had Done stayed.

Just get behind the team, Hilly and the board (who lest we forget are dyed in the wool supporters). Up the Dale!

Jeez, I'm certainly in the optimistic camp. Yes it's disappointing, surely lots of factors involved in the sale but we will be a selling club whichever division we are in. The timing is poor but surely the signings of RNL and brandy were made in light of interest being shown in our players. Matty Done will have been offered a mega deal compared to what he is on at, let's face it a premiership size club. If my boss stood in my way of an offer like that I'd be peeved. Hilly probably knew if Matty performed the way he knew he could then this scenario was likely. The transfer window has a lot to answer for but I still see us being competitive.

Still rather us conduct our business this way as opposed to our friends on the other side of Heywood.

That level of performance would get us a result in most league 1 games. Little mistakes that would go unpunished vs Gillingham, Chesterfield et al are exposed and seized upon by premiership class teams. On a night like last night I would not be overly critical. We were excellent overall, Dawson and Bennett were superb and we never looked out of the game. Just wish I didn't live so far away and work Saturdays so I could see this great set of players doing us so proud more often.
Money in the bank, an admirable showing on the telly box and a great chance of some success as the season progresses. Up the Dale
