Now look readers, I m advised that from Monday ,Aldo will be selling fine wines for £9.99

Argentinian Malbec and Languedoc reds and ,if my memory serves me right, a white Burgundy.

Its called , "the Lot Series". Its not related to the Lot et Garonne department ;these are wines created by some chap who is a leading wine maker specifically for Aldi- given their buying power.

Enjoy..

The socialists can carry on with their BOW, however there is a cider called St Etienne, which Ive tested with my smoked haddock and it was tidy.

Why not just stick to meths boys? Good wines can be a real joy and hopefully give Aldi's great skill in wine buying I look forward to trying this range. Having done a fair bit of wine tasting (Loire, Burgundy, Jura, Ardeche, British Columbia and California) it is startling how much better wines above 20 quid are. Not for everyday but as a treat a few times a year. Some wines I tried in Mersault blew me away and in fairness Aldi had a good one a while back for 18 quid.

I had my eyes opened on a tasting trip in Tuscany. That chianti, oh wow. Prices were too rich for me though. I love a good bottle once or twice a month though so appreciate the pointers from you folks. I tried Lidl Barolo the other day but wasn't overly impressed.

I make my own as well

Paticuarly fond of the Beaverdale Merlot

Very nice not the cheapest at £40 per kit but well worth it

Not done a wine in a while as I've started getting into beer, but any decent kit will produce decent results and the more expensive ones are excellent.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

As we will be driving to Spain this summer we will be buying a lot of bottles of cava (flexeinet) and the price difference is startling. This is even better with the current exchange rate but we would like to get some good french white wine at a good price and would like some recommendations (and where to buy it)

Asda are doing wines at £25 for 6 bottles. These include both colour Castillero's and Nottage Hill's and there Rosemount there as well. These wines normally retail at £8 per bottle.

Rich , we had a fantastic semillon in Clermont Ferrand which was not cheap and I expect that it would be more reasonable in a supermarket or wine shop.

I will look out for the updates :)

I had the Pezenas today. Obviously I have no wine sense (or I have a lot). I enjoyed the £6 Malbec just as much. So feck the tenner from now on, it's six quid plonk for me.

Look for a good co-op or cave de vignerons which are common in wine growing areas. I guss you will go through the Rhone belles so worth looking If the cave de vignerons ardechois have an outlet around Montelimar or some where else close to the autoroute. Closer to Lyon you will pass near some major Rhone wineries, then north of Lyons Beaujolais then the main Burgundy vineyards, whilst there will not be much cheap in the latter, it is still much cheaper than the UK.

Thanks for that. We don't travel the Lyon route but travel the a75 Orleans, Clermont Millau route or Limoges to Toulouse so will try and plan something that has a good pick up. There is an excellent shabby restaurant in chateauroux which we plan to visit this year so that is the preferable route.

I am less familiar with that route, but the same principles should apply. And of course at the caves you should get to try before buying. You may just catch the edge of the Lore for white wines on that route.

It was more intended that being compared with your good self was a compliment as much as any knowledge of wine. Hope you are enjoying the wind ,
