About time we had one and it's got the word "official" in the title so that makes all the difference. If a mod wants to sticky it, feel free.
I seem to remember that five years ago (on the old, better Planet Swans) we got to nearly 100 pages and then another 60odd with the "aftermath" thread. They were good fun but there were more posters then and we were all a bit more tolerant of others' views. Let's try to be nice to each other, eh.
Anyway, best site for opinion polls is this one in my experience:
Polls are so tight the only conclusion is that the Tories and Labour are head to head nationwide. Can't put a whisker between them.
Tories need about 39-40% for an overall majority. Labour will probably get one on 36-37%. God bless our ridiculous voting system.
So, enjoy yourselves. I'll start with a prediction. Labour to win most seats but slightly fewer votes than the Tories and end up forming some kind of minority government with support from various parliamentary lefties on a vote by vote basis. And then all of a sudden many Tory supporters will discover that they've always hated first past the post and can't understand why we perpetuate a system under which the party which more people voted for than any other can lose the election. It'll be quite funny and lead to calls for a proper voting system. Which everyone will forget about in six months when all the fuss has died down.

Thanks, although our opinions differ I genuinely respect yours. Hopefully I'm overreacting, and my lack of an economics background is leading me to draw the wrong conclusions.
What is your area of specialism?

What is your area of specialism?
Physics (studied at Swansea) - applying it to renewable energy (moved to England for the PhD). For the particular industry I am looking to move into I think the result is troubling.

I think you may be pleasantly surprised actually.
Renewables is an area in which that I think Wales (led by Swansea University and the Tidal Lagoon Project) can really carve out a significant niche. I am genuinely excited at the sight of what is being built down on Jersey Marine.
I know that the potential deal on the Tidal Lagoon is expensive, but the prospect of Swansea being able to become a world leader in this type of technology is fantastic.
Wonderfully exciting area to be involved with though !

I very much hope you are right. The Swansea Lagoon is going and I hope it is done so responsibly. Lets hope the Ramsey Sound project can get some momentum behind it. I went to an energy seminar given by a Tory MP (he lost his seat to Labour in this election) and he took a fairly anti-renewable and pro-fracking stance. I worry that this view is shared by others in his party. There does seem too be a good amount of support for tidal head exploitation (tidal lagoons/barrages) with a second lagoon planned for Cardiff bay.

I wouldn't prefer Labour I would rather a genuine choice. Labour should have run an anti austerity campaign, I may have voted for them. The national debt has gotten out of control under the Tories and they've been voted back in. We have a historian advised by a crack head running the economy whilst an actual economist lost his seat. This country is on its way down and once the PhD is done, I'll be off to Ireland or an independent Scotland.

Blame the Twitter, Facebook , social Media generation. They tweet 'bout how pigged off they are with the Tories, foodbanks, and austerity, tell the pollsters they are going to vote Labour, then cant be bothered to get out and vote. Flipping lightweights a lot of them when it comes to doing something rather than tweeting about it. Collectively we have the result we deserve.

I was actually joking, suggesting that was the only document to support it.
Putting my balanced hat on there seem to be a fairly even split between economists saying austerity is good and bad.
Majority of 12 which was completely unexpected of course but now it's time to sit back and enjoy watching the Tory party implode in the run up to the EU referendum.

Sorry bud, was in bad form earlier on, come to terms with things now. The economics students I have spoken to have said the same thing. It's just frustrating, I'm used to things either being right or wrong not depending on your political affiliation.

In my experience of Economics (A level only) it's a weird subject. There's some scientific aspects to it, but a hell of a lot of opinion and interpretation.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I did economics at O Level. By f*ck it was boring.
I liked the theoretical macro stuff, but when they started going on about multipliers I just switched off.

That a very valid point skip to be fair. It's a good job you are not disabled otherwise they would hit you harder .
We need left wing politics back to get this country up & running . More police , more Dr's renationalise trains , gas , electric , raise the minimum wage . With a point scoring Austrailian immigration system & close the borders . Get hold of all the massive corporations and their slave labour & tax dodging . We need more working class people in parliament .
I havnt made my mind up yet who I'am voting for but it certainly won't be the conservatives .
