The Official Planet Swans General Election 2015 Thread 20:33 - Apr 7 with 84607 viewsexiledclaseboy

About time we had one and it's got the word "official" in the title so that makes all the difference. If a mod wants to sticky it, feel free.

I seem to remember that five years ago (on the old, better Planet Swans) we got to nearly 100 pages and then another 60odd with the "aftermath" thread. They were good fun but there were more posters then and we were all a bit more tolerant of others' views. Let's try to be nice to each other, eh.

Anyway, best site for opinion polls is this one in my experience:

http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/

Polls are so tight the only conclusion is that the Tories and Labour are head to head nationwide. Can't put a whisker between them.

Tories need about 39-40% for an overall majority. Labour will probably get one on 36-37%. God bless our ridiculous voting system.

So, enjoy yourselves. I'll start with a prediction. Labour to win most seats but slightly fewer votes than the Tories and end up forming some kind of minority government with support from various parliamentary lefties on a vote by vote basis. And then all of a sudden many Tory supporters will discover that they've always hated first past the post and can't understand why we perpetuate a system under which the party which more people voted for than any other can lose the election. It'll be quite funny and lead to calls for a proper voting system. Which everyone will forget about in six months when all the fuss has died down.

What say you?

Poll: Tory leader

Aye. But only for about three series.

Denmark TV never commissioned the fourth.

Pity that the Labour First Minister for Wales and the Conservative leader in Wales will apparently not be taking on Plaids Leanne Wood [and others] in tonight's Welsh leaders debate, injured ? or perhaps instructed by their bosses in London not to take part in case they got a political kicking ? or perhaps they just didn't fancy it ?

Continually being banned by Planet Swans for Porthcawl and then being reinstated.

I'd expect that from the Tories but I find Carwyn ducking out of this thoroughly reprehensible.
He is the first minister of Wales. His administration in the Assembly are responsible for a lot of what happens in Wales and yet he is obviously refusing to give the opposition a platform just in case he is held accountable.

Not to mention the hypocrisy of the Labour party giving Cameron a kicking for ducking a 1 on 1 debate with Milliband only to do this in Wales.

The Labour party are taking the piss out of Wales and laughing up their sleeves.
They are taking us for granted.

I somehow doubt that, Trampie. Leanne Wood lacks the ability to even regurgitate threadbare soundbites without reference to notes much less thrive at extempore debate.

Rouge she may be, but Dolores Ibarruri she most certainly is not.

Now we're on to proper stuff. I picked up the boxset last week but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Any good?

As for the election stuff, I look forward to the traditional election night of a big pizza, bottle of Grey Goose and watching ECB panic on here. It should be fun

It's not The Killing - in particular there are not enough jumpers worn - but I enjoyed it.

How they ever got the concept of a political drama about Denmark coalition politics through the commissioning editors, I'll never know. But glad they did.

Superb.

However, if it was utter tripe I'd still watch it for the lovely Birgitte...

Its not a Welsh Government election though?

TV debates are worthless enough as it is, what use would a debate be where not one of the panel are actually standing for election?

If man evolved from monkeys why do we still have monkeys?

Good point but...

Is the Welsh Labour party not out on the doorsteps campaigning for a Milliband government in Westminster?
I think so.

Do you watch First Ministers Questions in the Assembly?
At every opportunity Carwyn seeks to avoid being held to account by diverting the argument towards Westminster politics. He holds the coalition government responsible for everything that goes wrong under his own administration.
He attacks Cameron and the Tories.
He attacks Clegg and the Lib Dems.
He bigs up Milliband and the Labour party.

You know as well as I do that the reason Carwyn is refusing to debate with Leanne Wood on national TV is because Labour Valley votes are the votes Plaid Cymru are after and need.
He is happy with the status quo and won't risk being made a fool of on Welsh TV as he has everything to lose and Plaid have everything to gain.

It's exactly the same reason why Cameron wasn't keen on sharing too much air time with UKIP and wouldn't debate with Milliband 1 on 1.

It's pure cynicism.

Don't you think the Welsh voters about to vote in the UK election deserve to hear from the leaders aspect of the UK election debated the leaders

I saw him speak in The Unitarian Church on High Street when he said that British soldiers killed in Ulster could have no complaint.

I quite liked Scargill's party's approach to faith schools. And the EU.

The rest of it is obvious nonsense of course, but those bits were good.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
