Over 70% of all X Factor finalists will never release an album and of those that do most will have sales figures that would struggle to rival a self released EP of a sh!t indie band, which considering that the X Factor is a 3 month long advertising campaign on prime time, national television is pretty embarrassing.
Those that do get decent sales from their first album release will usually see figures for their subsequent releases fall by 50%+. For example, Leona Lewis' first album after X Factor sold 3million copies, her second sold 600k and her third sold 60k. Olly Murs and One Direction are the only exception to this. And how many past winners or finalists still have a record deal?
Those who do go on to have a career will either be doing reality TV, provincial musical theatre or playing clubs and holiday camps for £100 a show. |  |
