I haven't even commented on this thread until now!
X Factor - a disease in the music industry that is slowly strangling it to a grisly death. It's not about making great music at all but getting famous for a few years whilst Cowell coins it in.
If you gave a large proportion of these contestants (that's what they are as they are not musicians) a guitar or a piano and said to them play this and sing something you have written then they would absolutely panic. |  |
