"Greater Manchester police has declined to comment on claims by an unnamed Muslim community worker that they had twice contacted police with concerns about Salman Abedi, several years ago."
Hope this isn't true.

Peter Hitchens has argued extensively about this. Not only for Islamic terrorists but for people like the Norwegian terrorist Anders Brevik who admitted to using anabolic steroids.
The commentator on that Douglas Murray discussion are obviously intelligent people, but I'm still left with the feeling that they're being played as much as some of the idiots who rail against all things Muslim.
Let's stop and ask ourselves - what's ISIS'S and al-Qaeda's end game? It's not exactly difficult to discern - it's blindingly obvious and explicitly stated in fact - their aim is to turn ALL Muslims against ALL "unbelievers" - culminating in some Armageddon-type war that brings an end of the World, according to their bonkers ideology. So, any attempts to link these fanatics, who have a religious mental illness, to the wider Muslim community is playing directly into their hands, as it risks extending their support base and thereby legitimise them.
Is there a problem with misogony and homophobia in parts of the Muslim community? Clearly there is - but this is also true of some Christian sects, in this country, but especially in the States. But even zealots with such views would draw the line at mass murder to promote their warped worldview.
We have a choice, we can maximize the Us, and minimse the Them, thereby marginalizing and cutting off the ISIS ideologues from their potential support, or we can act as unwitting clueless footsoldiers in ISISs recruitment wing.
I'm all in favour of a extending any Prevent strategy, but thought needs to be given to extending that, albeit in a different form, to the wider non-Muslim community. There are far too many morons out there doing ISISs work for them. We simply can't afford to indulge feelings of inchoate rage. We have to outsmart ISIS. It shouldn't be difficult in the long run given that the psychopathic disorder that informs ISIS and their supporters is at odds with the normality of the vast majority of the population, Muslim or non-Muslim.

So where was Isis before 2005?
They didn't exist.
But don't talk about it though.
It upsets the thick c*nts who thought invading Iraq would be a good idea, despite all the warnings.
They don't like to be reminded about what they brought to our streets and will accuse you of condoning terrorism as a way to deflect the blame for what they helped create.

Did Al-Qaeda et al exist pre 2005?
What we've seen since 2005 is the evolution of such groups - they've changed their strategies. Sleeper cells et al.
Blair is an utter c*nt but to farcically claim Islamic based terrorism only started with him and Bush is delusional.

The Holy Land is an odd phrase for a land consumed with bitterness from Biblical times .
There again,Biblical is a key word
Never was a solution not ever will be in our lifetime
Christian-Jew-,Jew Christian, Islam-Jew,Jew Islam.
When you throw in the sects in Islam ,you have a potent cocktail of hate , which greater minds that ours have failed to cure.
Sages on this site haven't the answer either.
There is no answer
I understand where you're coming from perchrockjack but that really is a counsel of despair. I would agree that there is no single, simple answer - but there are things that we can do to marginalise the extremists and reduce the incidence of these sort of atrocities. But it's hard not to despair at times, been there got that t-shirt.
One thing's for sure is there will come a time that we will look back on this time in World history with incredulity, in much the same way as we now view the slave trade. Let's make sure that point in history is arrived at sooner rather than later.

Slavery still exists. People patting themselves on the back because we as a society no longer have for example enslaved Africans transported here for menial jobs doesn't mean it's eradicated. There have been trials recently... it still happens. Slavery still exists within some African societies. Some of the biggest slavers in historical times were African natives, selling captured members of other tribes...
With regards to extremism, extremism comes from ignorance. Until regions of the world get a f*cking clue and drag themselves out of their medieval times view things won't change. Look at the contrast between India and Pakistan for example. One an emerging nation, the other a hotbed of extremism and terrorism.
The solution is neither one nor 'tother, it's both. We need to simultaneously get tough on those involved in terrorism in any way, and also not marginalise the Muslim community. I was watching Gilles Kepel on bbc news last night and he was making some interesting points on this.

Al Qaeda did exist pre-2005 but not ISIS. ISIS was created in Iraq by Iraq based insurgents (many ex-camp Bucca prisoners) and is currently led by an Iraqi. There is ummmm a 100% undeniable connection with the Iraq war/invasion and appalling outrage seen in Manchester.
So? That appalling outrage is something Blair and Co should have on their conscience. But hey? Some loons will still come up with the "But yeah, if they didn't do it another Islamist group would have". That is like saying "Yeah, but if the Myra Hindley and Ian Brady didn't do it some one else would have". *Note* conspicuous damning silence/disappearance from Blair i.e. someone that craves media/press attention. Why?

Point taken, and for sure we mustn't be complacent about slavery. But we're now a million miles from where we were just to or three centuries ago in terms of tolerance of slavery. In the fullness of time ISIS will be seen as the psychopathic cult that they are.
Extremism comes from ignorance. Absolutely. But to assume that ignorance is limited to certain countries ain't clever. There's enough ignorance here in the UK - which we have some influence over - for us to be exclusively concerned about the ignorance of others - who we have next to no influence over.

Crazy ain't it peace envoy with his track record. Not so long back, he was here there and everywhere, trying to stir things up, milking self publicity from Brexit controversy for all it's worth, hopping from one newspaper/TV studio to another.......Suddenly?........He's become a Lord Lucan protege.

Tony Blair does indeed deserve all the vitriol he gets over the Iraq war.
Don't forget though that many, still serving, UK politicians who also voted in favour of the IRAQ war, some even calling for pre emptive strikes and military action, before Blair himself had committed the UK to war. These politicians want your vote in the 2017 GE, they must not be let off the hook.
