She was pulled because interview after interview was a disaster.
Pull now, with illness cited - sympathy for Abbott, turns tables on those slagging her off.
The problem is, the strategy failed.
Replace her with someone who verbally abused a blind journalist. Not great PR. The strategy also failed with regards to the illness.
Barry Gardiner was quick to say it was long term, very serious whilst admitting not knowing what the medical problem was. Abbott herself tweeted she should be back soon, indicating it's neither serious nor long term - or if long term can be managed.
Granted her constituents will always vote for her, but in a marginal seat it could have lost her the seat - who would vote for someone who would potentially have to quit in the short term due to ill health? | |
