Lots of politicising of these horrific incidents on both sides.
For what it's worth, I think there is an element of truth in both camps being spun together with a whole range of false extrapolation and misinformation.
It is obvious that Corbyn is deeply wary, and probably instinctively against, any policy that can be seen in any way to target minority groups in this country. That includes 'shoot to kill' and also a great deal of the extant terror legislation and the Prevent Strategy. However, I have no doubt whatsoever that he would fully support police officers shooting and killing terrorists on the rampage through one of our towns or cities, no doubt at all.
So his attitude on shoot to kill is irrelevant in this scenario, and is simply a political tool being used by the 'right' including the Tory party, aided by the Tory supporting media.
However, the issue on police numbers is similarly a political tool being used by the 'left' aided and abetted by self interest from the Police Federation. Firstly, the response time to the attack was 2 minutes. From report to all 3 being killed was 8 minutes. Are those saying it's the fault of police cuts really saying that those figures could in anyway have been improved? To have fully armed police on site in 2 minutes? Really? So we're left with the issue of whether people of interest have slipped through a net because of police numbers. Again, this seems unlikely to have caused the issue. The branch of the police that deals with such reports has actually seen an increase in its numbers not a decrease. Decreased numbers overall have happened as a result of automation, computerisation, the increased use of PCSOs and the reduction of community policing. All sorts of crimes have probably increased as a result. Petty theft, mugging, we have a spate here of people on mopeds nicking stuff from pedestrians. All sorts. But monitoring of terror suspects?
I don't agree with the level of police cuts. I personally feel safer with more police out and about on community policing issues. I also think that the police and other emergency services did a phenomenal job on Saturday - truly heroic. But I can't help feel that two cases have come up where the public are saying they reported these people as dangerous, and somehow they've been able to slip through the net and the Police Federation have a vested interest in blaming that on politicians rather than have fingers pointed at their members.
So there are elements of truth, but a lot of crap as well.
And actually what should happen, is party politics should be set aside, as this is a matter of national security. And they should all say 'this is too important to score points - all of us will sit down and discuss what we all think is the best way forward on this together with every expert we can't find. And we'll come up with a joint strategy.'
Anyone from either side looking for people to blame need to blame the evil little sh*ts that did this. Not politicians. [Post edited 5 Jun 2017 15:09]

Although you make some excellent points Lisa, and I agree it would be great for this whole debate to be de-politicised (and in a week that may be a realistic possibility), you seem to imply by talking about increasing use of PCSOs, that their numbers have increased. Nothing could be further from the truth.
If this report (albeit from a UNISON officer - but I can't imagine he would make up the figures) is to believed PCSO numbers have reduced by 38%. That's a huge reduction - and it would be very difficult to argue that such a reduction in the front-line, community interfacing element of the police service would not have an impact on intelligence gathering and community relations. Whether it would have impacted on the specific incidents recently is another matter entirely of course.
I don't trust May or Corbyn, but with May having made such an issue out of leadership in this campaign the facts around her tenure in the Home Office make for very uncomfortable reading.

I know. The difference is Labour, in their manifesto, has said they will ban all arms sales to Saudi Arabia. Whether they would actually do that is another thing. The Cons, on the other hand, defend the relationship with the Saudis because it's "good business".
I'd rather have a Labour government that would move towards reducing support for the Saudis than a Conservative government that ignores the problem of continued extremism in the name of business.

Sorry bythol - I meant reliance for community policing rather than overall numbers which I believe have fallen.
As an example - our community policing team used to be 4 police officers and 1 PCSO. It's now 2 police officers and 2 PCSOs.
Your point re overall numbers for PCSOs is a good one. As I said, I think the cuts to community policing have gone way further than I would like. | | | |

You see this 'internet thing'..
We have the capability to monitor all 'computer' related devices.. 'actively watch people browse on their computer from another location'
With this 'genius' piece of technology that's been around for about 20 years now.. could be absolutely vital in catching and incarcerating Islamic Extremists in the uk who sign up to specific websites that are run from libiya and syria to join the ISIS brotherhood.
But due to a liberal law amendment in the last 15 years.. the security services are not allowed to snoop on raging terrorists actively wanting to kill people, and spread the word of Jihad in case it 'offends' them.. and stops their 'human rights'.
But if a pedophile for instance has been snooping on child pornography sites.. he's pretty much arrested in a few months.
But there's a bigger picture to all of this nonsense anyway.. money is the obvious factor.. obviously.
