Red Wine - White wine on 21:03 - Jun 24 by Flashberryjack
So I'm not such the Wine Philistine after all then........funnily enough I've got a bottle of el- cheapo red in the fridge chilling as I type, should be about ready now.
Pushing your luck now wus fridge OK but el cheapo? 😜
I once spent £45 on a decent Muscadet only because it was the cheapest on the list. Shit myself when I saw some of the f?!kers were £4200 a dab in case I pronounced something wrong.
Swansea City, THE Austerity Club.

Johnson's baby oil was free in those places though.
I found it very thin when I had some a few years ago when it had all this hype. Will have to try another bottle now. Nice fruity reds, in my opinion.....
McGuigan Black Label Red Wine (no grape variety mentioned) £5 in Costco, small bottles around £2 in Morrisons. Never lets me down.
Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon £6 Tesco at the moment.
Apothic Red normally £10 but around £7 on offer, widespread
Campo Viejo Gran Reserva (grey label) £15 Tesco but only £8 at Costco.
Penfold's Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz £23 at Majestic. A poor man's Grange, I bought this when it used to be £13 at Tesco but always waited for the regular half price offer at £6.50. A bargain. Couldn't believe the price now and it's stopped me drinking any of the 10 I've still got left.

Casillero - people think its great taste when they pay over £20 but cheap plonk when a £5 bargain. For the same wine. Lol. Ambience see.

Nice wine Kalima. Penfold's wines were great value in late 80s but no longer

Bin 389 ("Baby Grange") is £50 a pop now. Had a lovely vintage bottle at a wealthy (and very generous) Aussie mate's house recently. Outstanding.
Didn't beat the 2003 McRae Wood shiraz from Jim Barry though. If anyone knows where I can get something as good as this for around a fiver, please PM me...

Tanners wine Merchants used to carry Jim Barry wines but that was 15 years Avis when I lived in Shrewsbury. Tudor Shiraz in Aldi is excellent but 8 quid

Thanks - I'll give that a try.
If there's a Waitrose near you grab a Jip Jip Rocks shiraz - on offer at £7.99. You'll thank me...

Some mates couldn't tell a rioja from a claret. My mate with a cellar full of Grange could probably tell you the vintage.
To quote the Coasters - "Some folks got it and some folks ain't".
Funnily enough, I'm just polishing off a Toro Loco - very drinkable but I could tell the difference between that and a Jim Barry shiraz without even tasting it.

For anyone that has a Costco card I've seen Jim Barrie Cover Drive there for under a tenner, I think they have another one as well. Errazuriz Max Reserva is around £8 (£12 in Waitrose) as was the Wolf Glass President selection which sold for around £15, think it's been re-branded to Gold now. I used to buy The Black Stump from Laithwaites, or one of it's many affiliates, for just over a fiver when it first came out. I've never known anyone not to like it. Don't think I've seen any other wine use Durif grapes although there must be a few.
