Absolutely- RIP. He has made his mark on this world leaving a rich legacy that is appreciated by young and old alike. I went to a party before Christmas where a couple of lads from Neath were playing, they couldn't have been more than about 15 and their first song was Johnny B Goode!
I never had the chance to see him live, I reckon it would have been a hell of a good gig!

Saw him several times - usually with pick-up British bands and you were lucky to get a 30 minute set out of him.
Would often hold promoters to ransom before going on by demanding more money in cash.
Huge figure in rock 'n' roll but also a bit of an arsehole. Got nicked for putting spy cameras in the female toilets of his restaurant...

Your first 2 sentences - Keith Richards said exactly the same. He was obviously a god to Keith, but he said he saw Chuck Berry live 4 times, but every time was a massive disappointment - cheapest backing band Chuck Berry could find, hardly any rehearsal with them, short sets.

Richards said on My Planet Rocks on Planet Rock last year that Berry filled him in for touching his guitar.
The first ever recipient of a Planet Swans Lifetime Achievement Award.
One of the must influential figures in popular music but a bit of a cünt as a human being.
I saw him a few times, mate. Obviously he was well past his prime by then but I still got the impression that I cared about the tunes a lot more than he did by that stage.
A group of us were sat in The Tenby one night and Terry Williams was regaling us with tales of playing with Berry. Dave Edmunds usually acted as band leader for Chuck's bigger UK apperances in the '70s and Terry was by his side more often than not. To say Chuck Berry was a horror in real life would be the understatement of the year! Terry had us all in stitches, old Chuck was absolutely crackers!!!
For all that in his pomp he was magnificent. No two ways about it.
An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.
