I don't think it's a case of losing 7 in a row. If it were a matter of picking up a solitary point to ensure safety then I would be as confident as you. |

I am not quite sure what to say to that. If we are safe by then, then no of course it won't really matter. But unless I am talking to Marty McFly (in which case I used to like your films) then in terms of the here and now that seems a bit of a moot topic. |

It is a question of mentality rather than random results going against us. Season after season after season the bottom pack string games together and have a late charge, regardless of current form. Because, of course, they often have more to fight for than their opposition.
If we no longer have that scrap for every minute mentality then there is a clear reason why our results may not be great while others below us may improve, not just a case of being pessimistic. You have already stated we should be focussing on next season. Its a
crazy mentality when history tells us that we should not be cracking open the cigars.
Do I think we will stay up? yes. Do I think it we will do it comfortably? probably not. |

Sunderland did it 2 years ago with a much tougher run in so it would be foolish to think they can't again. If the Swans players have that attitude then yes I am confident we will be fine. If they are puffing on the expensive Cubans already, then I cant be as sure, because the ones below will be fighting tooth and nail. |

But our survival doesn't depend on us avoiding a 0 point in 7 game run though does it? We can draw 2 and lose 5 of our last 7, which is quite possible given the run in, and still be in a spot of bother. IF Sunderland win 4 from 8 given that scenario, then they go above us. |

It feels like I am the only one who has been watching this league over the years. This stuff happens regularly. You don't even have to look back more than 12 months to find an even more ''unlikelier'' scenario. End of March Leicester were bottom, 7 points behind 17th place with 9 games to go. They finished 6 points clear in 14th.
The year before, Sunderland were 7 points from 17th place with 9 games to go. They then went on a run beating Man United and Chelsea away and finishing 5 points clear in 14th.
West Ham, Wigan, Fulham, WBA all had similar survival stories and all went on similar runs over the years. So why is it so unthinkable that Sunderland will this season? |

I don't think anybody WANTS to worry, and I truly hope nobody at the club is planning on having a relaxing end to the season as that is the exact attitude that will cost us.
I just cannot understand how anybody can say with any sense of certainly that Palace cannot gain 3 points on us, Norwich cannot gain 9 points on us and Sunderland cannot gain potentially 8 points on us with 7 games to go in one of our hardest run ins we have ever had. That is a total that can be gained in 3 games. Especially at this time of the season. Ask Leicester. |

Well I have no idea how you can predict any team wont win in this league. Sunderland are more than capable of beating Everton.
It is also not Newcastle and Sunderland that both need to overtake us either, only one has to. Sunderland are more than capable of beating Everton, if they do, then Norwich, Sunderland and Palace are all within 7 points of us with 7 games to go. now look at our run in. All I am saying is - that scenario, which starts with a simple Sunderland win - is not comfortable at all. |

No we don't need to lose the lot at all. For example - Sunderland and Newcastle win their games in hand they are then 7 and 8 points behind us respectively. At that point they would then need to win 3 more games than us in the next 7, less than that in Sunderlands case.

Eh? You can back us to stay up at 1-33. If you think we are 95-100% safe then how is that a silly suggestion in any way shape or form when you were the one who told me to do the exact same thing on the opposite outcome?
I am not saying I think we will go down, I am fully aware we have a great chance of staying up. But I am also aware that a good chance is all it is, we are not over the line yet and still in very real danger considering the run in we have, apparent relaxed mentality and historical trend of relegation threatened teams pulling off a string of results.
It seemed like the Villa game was the decider for many. its far from that for me. |

It could also be said that you could get yourself to the bookies and back us to stay up at 1-33. I would not be confident in doing that at all. |

Teams at the bottom often go on runs of results when faced with the trap door. I genuinely think we could be in a bit of trouble unless we win another game. But I am not sure which game that will come from, with the way we are playing added to the sense of safety now, and the level opposition we face - there is a bit of work to do yet in my opinion. |

There seems a concerning sigh of relief has been breathed around the club, but looking at the table I am not as convinced as everybody seems to be. I hope we are not relaxing too soon.
Newcastle and Sunderland have a game in hand over us. they win it and they are 7/8pts behind with 7 to play.
we have Leicester away, West Ham away, Man City home, Liverpool home, Chelsea home, Stoke away and Newcastle away.
we will be underdogs for every single one of those games.
Someone convince me I should be as relaxed as others... |

We will have to agree to disagree on all counts Jasper. I think Gil and Ayew have been standout players by some distance, not sure what you mean by Gil hasn't established himself in the side however? he is one of the first names on the team sheet now isn't he? and Van Aanholt impresses me every time I see him. I can't comment on Wijnaldum's away form though, I will take your word for it. He looks class to me though, but football is a funny old game and we all see it differently. Now we look safe, is it worth considering taking some of these players who undoubtedly are too good for the Championship? I like the look of the following:-
Van Aanholt (Sunderland) - looks one of the better full backs in the PL and has links to our rumoured new manager Rodgers.
Gil and Ayew (Villa) - By far the best two of the bunch from Villa. Ayew probably out of our price range.
Redmond (Norwich) - Been linked before and chose Norwich instead. Looks like a typical Swansea style winger and could fit in well.
Wijnaldum (Newcastle) - Another probably out of our price range but his class is clear.
Anybody have any opinions or other players they would like to see come in from the relegation candidates? |

Firstly it is a relief to see at least someone can see people have been deliberately taking what I say and distorting it for their own ends. It is disappointing some prefer to argue over such matters rather than chat like grown ups.
I also am completely against underage sex, but this is where the legalities come in that you mention in my posts. Underage is determined by each country, in this country it is 16 which is why Johnson is rightly in the dock facing jail. But if we were in France for example then you adapt to their laws and they believe 15 is old enough to make such decisions. I personally would be uncomfortable if it were made lower than that, but in Europe I don't believe we face anything lower than that so as a European I am pretty satisfied with the standard of our laws. This is all my point is.
Can I just add that I find skippys posts awful and couldnt disagree more. |
