Am I his only fan?

Is my love of trains skewering my opinion?

He's reinvented himself well, but every now & again Mr Nasty slips through.

Really? I don’t remember him much as a politician. What are his worse points?

No never been locked up as far as I recall (You might be thinking of Jonathan Aitken).

Portillo was one of the "bastards" as John Major called them. Always very anti EU.

Yes it was Jonathon Aitken. Oh didn’t know John Major didn’t like him. He’s a real genuinely nice guy John Major. Going to have a rethink about Portillo, those train journeys are clouding my judgement 😀

Disliked Portillo intensely as a politician, a smugly arrogant duplicitous right wing supporter of the poll tax and the death penalty who`s demise as an MP was widely celebrated.

But since he introduced his penchant for dressing like a sherbet dip, picked up his Bradshaw`s guide and hopped on a train, he has won me over...

I remember him well.

He was a nasty piece of work in his early days as a politician.

I loved it when he lost his seat to labout in 1997. Happy days.

I like Portillo's train journeys programme too. Trains, British history largely from the point of view ' how we lived then' and all the interesting people he meets. A great mix in my view
