There's been gossip and speculation of a few possible ins and outs, even at this early stage, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Possibly because we'd like to do our business ASAP and have a good pre-season.

Nixon tweets - seems like Arsenal want a hefty fee for Ballard. They can sling their hook. We'd improve him as a player no end:

It was easy to see right through Sunderland with all the articles yesterday about giving Embleton a first team chance.

They were simply trying to push the price up. Sunderland are mediocre, at best, at this game and we should easily get the upper hand in any negotiations.

This latest article's evidently been doctored by Sunderland too, they've inserted the words ''significant' offer' and 'seven figure offer'. Tut, tut.

Over to you Mansford:

Blackpool will make offer for Sunderland's Elliot Embleton

BLACKPOOL are ready to test Sunderland’s resolve to hold on to Elliot Embleton by tabling a formal offer for the promotion-winning midfielder.

Embleton was a member of the Blackpool side that won promotion to the Championship via the League One play-off final on Sunday, having moved to Bloomfield Road on loan in January.

The 22-year-old played a key role in the Seasiders’ success in the second half of the season, making 21 appearances in all competitions and scoring two goals.

His loan spell expired when the final whistle blew at Wembley, and both Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman and head coach Lee Johnson have publicly insisted that the Durham-born midfielder will be returning to the Academy of Light for pre-season training and playing a central role in the Black Cats’ first-team squad next season.

However, with promotion to the Championship providing Blackpool with an immediate financial boost of around £6m, Seasiders boss Neil Critchley has instructed his club’s board to do all they can to secure Embleton’s services on a permanent basis this summer.

Blackpool are preparing what is being described as a ‘significant’ offer for the midfielder, and are clearly hoping Sunderland’s failure to get out of League One will tempt them to cash in on their brightest young talent.

Under the previous regime, led by Stewart Donald, the Black Cats sold off a succession of talented youngsters, often before they had even come close to realising their full potential on Wearside. The decision to offload Josh Maja to Bordeaux arguably cost Sunderland promotion under Jack Ross, while Bali Mumba left to join Norwich City without ever really getting a chance to prove himself in red-and-white.

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is adamant things have changed following his replacement of Donald, and Speakman has also spoken effusively about the need to build a strong academy and nurture emerging talent.

Rebuffing a seven-figure offer from Blackpool would be a powerful statement of intent, and Johnson clearly intends to make Embleton, who can play in a wide attacking-midfield position or as a number ten, an integral part of next season's squad.

The number of articles about Embleton is increasing. Sunderland are trying to cause a real palaver and it's getting boring now.

However, the Simms situation seems to be revealing itself. Interesting:

Blackpool loan ace could become available this summer — Tangerines face Championship competition though

Everton are set to hand Ellis Simms a new contract after his Blackpool loan spell — his current contract is due to expire in 12 months time.

Simms, 20, scored 10 goals in 23 League One appearances for Blackpool in the season just gone. He played a crucial part in the Tangerines’ resurgent 2021 showing which eventually resulted in promotion via the play-offs.

The Athletic previously suggested that Blackpool would like a return for the striker this summer and now with their Championship status confirmed, that should prove an attractive outcome for the young striker.

But The Athletic also reported that Simms has interest outside of Blackpool, with several Championship teams thought to be looking over his situation.

For Neil Critchley’s side, a striking addition is necessary going into the Championship with their main man Jerry Yates having attracted interest all season long.

Thoughts?

If Critchley can have an attack of Yates and Simms going into their Championship campaign then it’ll give them a great chance of retaining their second-tier status beyond next season.

Both scored crucial goals last season and both gave their side a certain potency about their attack, with Simms proving a very versatile striker.

His Blackpool breakthrough in 2021 has set him on the right track but his next move should be taken with great caution — Blackpool is familiar to him now and a return could be his best option going into the 2021/22 campaign.

It's true what's written in he article.

An attack of Yates + Simms would be quite tasty in the championship.

All Sunderland's hubris last week will probably come to naught.

The focus has shifted somewhat and the talk is now of Sunderland 'fighting tooth and nail' to keep him which sort of suggests a plucky rearguard action.

Ha ha.

Let's see how much we get Embleton for in the end:

Phillips fears Embleton may quit Sunderland to re-join Blackpool amid confirmed news

Sunderland will be “fighting tooth and nail” to keep Elliot Embleton at the club this summer, according to Kevin Phillips.

The Stadium of Light legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old could be a real asset to the Black Cats next season in their push for promotion.

Embleton spent the second half of the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Blackpool and impressed as they achieved promotion via the play-offs.

he winger was confirmed on Sunderland’s retained list last month which would suggest that he is part of Lee Johnson’s plans.

However, Phillips is adamant Blackpool will be interested in re-signing Embleton and fears a move to the Championship will prove too tempting.

“I would be desperate to keep hold of him,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“I watched him a few times last season and I think he is good player and he is certainly someone who can play in League One.

“It raised a few eyebrows when he went to Blackpool and he did very well there.

“I expect the club to be fighting tooth and nail not to let him go.

“He is a good, young player who has done exceptionally well to help Blackpool get promoted. I think he would have a lot to offer next season. Keep him at the club and let him help the club get promoted.

“The other question is, does Embleton want to stay? I am sure Blackpool will be interested in signing him and he might be tempted to go and play in the Championship. I really hope they keep him though.”

As already discussed. Much of the current forcus is currently on the freshly departed loanees.

If we want them again - decide and do the deal quickly.

If not go to the top of the list for our new targets.

I'm confident we'll see Portsmouth's bid for Gabriel off (Wow, not often we can say that), it's more of a question of Forest being prepared to let him go.

As a first choice right back in the championship next season Gabriel'd do for me, all day long.

Gabriel talk:

Report: Portsmouth and Blackpool want Nottingham Forest gem Jordan Gabriel

Nottingham Forest right-back Jordan Gabriel has summer interest from Blackpool and Portsmouth, according to The Mirror.

The 22-year-old helped the Tangerines back into the Championship with a 2-1 win over Lincoln in the League One play-off final.

Now, the academy graduate has interest from other clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

Forest fans shouldn’t be worried though. It is claimed that Chris Hughton is keen to take a look at the defender with a view to giving him a chance.

Cyrus Christie has returned to Fulham for next season, whilst Carl Jenkinson has been told he is free to leave this summer.

Gabriel’s game came on leaps and bounds last season. He made 35 appearances for the League One outfit and shone under Neil Critchley.

He showcased his ability to play as part of a flat back four or on the right as a wing-back.

That versatility could help Hughton when it comes to mixing things up during 2021/22.

Gabriel has made a few outings for the Forest firt-team, without ever earning a proper chance.

Now should be his time though. He has been out on loan and after graduating the through the academy he has earned his stripes.
Gabriel deserves Forest chance

The Reds will sign some players in the summer but a right-back perhaps doesn’t need to be one of them.

Gabriel and Jayden Richardson are more than capable and both could earn a chance in pre-season.

Forest might have to be careful with regards to spending. With that in mind, they must carefully choose which areas to strengthen.

Gabriel has showcased his talents out on loan and he could be the sort of player who could save Forest millions in the market.

Motherwell’s Allan Campbell looks set to move to England once his contract expires at the end of this month — the midfielder has been linked with all of Blackpool, Luton Town and Millwall.

Campbell, 23, has just capped a fifth-straight season with Motherwell. The Scot has been a mainstay in the side for the four of those seasons but now looks set for a move to England when his contract expires at the end of June.

Alan Nixon wrote last month (The Sun on Sunday, 16.05.21) how Blackpool, Luton Town and Millwall were all ‘battling’ for the free signing and now Nixon has provided further insight into Campbell’s situation, tweeting:

Blackpool will be joining both Luton Town and Millwall n the Championship next season after their League One play-off final win over Lincoln City towards the end of last month.

Neil Critchley’s side put together a resurgent 2021 period to finish inside the top-six and they’ll make for another exciting addition to the Championship.

Both Luton and Millwall achieved mid-table security last time round and both, particularly Gary Rowett’s side, might be looking at clinching a top-six spot next season.

For Campbell, he’s gained some quality experience for a 23-year-old and now looks ready to make the step across the border into English football, with the Championship seemingly calling his name.

Coming from Scotland as well, he’ll prove a feasible purchase as Nixon points out that wages won’t break any bank’.

The race could quickly heat up for this one.

From what I gather and IF Campbell comes in it'll be as cover for Dougall and Stewart.

We've got (and are hence developing) 2 or 3 similar midfielders of a similar age (Robson, Virtue, and even Antwi) and therefore There'd be no point in him signing if it was to be behind them in the pecking order.

My suspicion is that Vitrue's time could be up as both he and Campbell are right footers. Robson's left keeping the balance.

Derby County-linked midfielder Josh Bowler is reportedly set to undergo a medical with Blackpool, reports TEAMtalk.

Bowler, 22, is set to be released by Everton at the end of this month.

He was linked with a move to Derby County earlier in the week but now TEAMtalk report that Blackpool have ‘won the race’ to sign the Englishman on a free transfer, with a medical set to take place.

Formerly of QPR, Bowler secured a £1.5million transfer to Everton ahead of the 2017/18 season but after three seasons at the club, the 2019/20 being spent on loan at Hull City, he’s set to be released by the Toffees.

He’s been a prolific name for the club’s development side but never made his Premier League bow for the club.

Wayne Rooney’s Derby County could see themselves being beaten to a lot of transfer targets in the summer months.

The club continues to find itself in takeover limbo following the collapse of Erik Alonso’s supposed bid, and having narrowly avoided relegation last term they might find it difficult to attract their priority transfer targets.

Bowler at 22-years-old really needs to have a lot more experience under his belt than he already has. Perhaps his move to Everton from QPR came too soon in his career but he looks to be nearing an exciting opportunity with Blackpool.

The Tangerines confirmed the signing of Reece James yesterday and the addition of Bowler could make them a surprise package in the Championship next season.

As for Derby, they really need to see some players across the line this summer as to give themselves a more comfortable season in the second-tier.

It seems like we're serious about Casey with Leeds "ironing out" a few details such as sell on fees before the transfer is finalised.

Casey's untried but is at the stage when he'd be coming here for 1st team oppertunities.

He's aright footed centre half, so where does that leave Ballard, or Ekpiteta for that matter?:

EFL club pushing hard to strike Leeds United transfer agreement

Blackpool are said to be pushing hard to secure the service of Oliver Casey at Leeds United.

News of Neil Critchley’s interest in Casey emerged earlier in the week, but as things stand nothing has been agreed for the young centre-back to make the move to Bloomfield Road and link up with Blackpool ahead of their Championship return.

Yet, Leeds Live’s latest report confirms that Blackpool are pushing hard for an agreement with Leeds for Casey, who they want to sign on a permanent basis.

The centre-back spent last season in Leeds’ under-23s, partnering Charlie Cresswell at centre-back and impressing. They won the Premier League 2 Division 2 title in emphatic fashion, claiming promotion along the way.

However, in terms of first team opportunities, Casey has struggled to crack the code under Marcelo Bielsa.

Bielsa gave him a Championship debut against Huddersfield Town in December 2019, but that remains his only taste of league action in a Leeds shirt.

He’s featured in the League Cup and FA Cup since, but a strong pool of centre-back options in the first team, plus Cresswell’s stature in the academy, have left Casey down the pecking order and potentially on the move this summer.

The Verdict

A move out of Leeds was never going to materialise overnight for Casey, particularly given it is a permanent move.

Leeds will be ironing out any details around the fee, whilst they will also be interesting a number of clauses surrounding any potential sale of the 20-year-old down the line. Just because he’s moving on, doesn’t mean Leeds don’t rate Casey, so they are right to cover their backs incase his career takes off.

We might just have to be a touch patient to wait for this to get the green-light.

Ballard not our player and clubs don't usually decide who goes out on loan until a couple of weeks into pre season training.

Think we still need 2 right backs, a right centre back, attacking (right, middle and left) midfielders and a striker

Defnsive midfielders (assuming Robson goes out on loan) are Dougall, Stewart, Ward, Virtue, Antwi - that's the pecking order.

I'd put question marks against Ward, Virtue, and Antwi.

Particularly harsh on Ward but are the deputies good enough for the championship. They'd need to step up big time when called upon.

Imagine a long term injury to either (or both of) Dougall and Stewart.

Personally, I see Robson as potentially a better replacement.

The same goes for Ekpiteta and (imagine if we signed him) Casey.

I'm a big fan of Ekpiteta and think he's got all the attributes to go all the way ..... eventually.

Those 2 lack experience at championship level.

I'd be worried if they were our 2 right hand centre halves.

No problem with Ekpiteta but I think he needs another year before being top dog and commanding championship centre forwards.
