Robbie Robertson - R.I.P. 06:44 - Aug 10 with 2421 viewsB_Wad

Anyone else into his music? One in a tradition of great American Indian rock musicians.

This arrangement can hopefully at least bring some feel good vibes during a time when we could all probably use some.

You take what you need
And you leave the rest
But they should never
Have taken the very best……..

The video which I found once of Levon Helm belting out the lyrics to that song remains one of my favourite ever music clips.

Thanks for posting as I’ve never heard that arrangement before. The Last Waltz is one of my favourite films and was lucky enough to see the Band many years ago with Dylan on the Isle of Wight .

RIP Robbie - I thought the Band were excellent. Their self titled album is one of my all time favourites.

Fantastic lead guitar player too.
Love the bit in The Last Waltz where he & Clapton are taking turns to solo.
No doubting who comes out on top in that battle.
As well as the load of great records he made with The Band & with Dylan, I also really like his solo albums “Robbie Robertson” (1989) and especially “Storyville” (1991)

The credits on those albums are unbelievable, as well as various ex-memebers of The Band he also had playing / singing on those albums Maria McKee, Neville Brothers, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Hornsby, Terry Bozzio from Zappa’s band, Daniel Lanois, most of R.E.M., most of U2 plus big name session guys like Larry Klein, Guy Pratt etc

He also co-wrote this amazing song with Maria McKee.

It crushes me into atoms everytime i watch this.

I can Picture my old man with his battered harmonica , ( that he swears he won in a poker game with Ronnie Lane in 1963), giving it the Old grey whistle test starkicker to this, one of his favourite ever Tracks.

Rest easy in the Big Pink Robbie, tell me old man East Ham Dave somewhere up there that i know he bought the harmonica in dean street soho after he saw Gram Parsons at a gig in 1976. The old rascal.
