Agents' Fees 23:26 - Jun 24 with 102 viewsBringBackTheRedRoom

Blackpool spent just £98,848 in agents’ fees last year according to new figures released by the FA.

The figures, which apply for the period between February 1, 2019 and January 31, 2020, show that Fleetwood Town paid £178,535.

By comparison Sunderland, League One’s biggest spenders by some margin, paid a staggering £1,346,373.

League One champions Coventry City came second in the list, spending £353,632.

Ipswich Town and Portsmouth come third and fourth in the table respectively.

Bolton Wanderers didn’t spend a penny on agents’ fees, the only club in England’s top five tiers to do so, while the likes of Gillingham, Rochdale and Wycombe Wanderers were among the lowest spenders.

During this period, the Seasiders paid fees for the likes of Ryan Hardie, Joe Nuttall, Jordan Thorniley, Teddy Howe and Ben Garrity.

Fleetwood, meanwhile, spent cash on James Cottam, Ched Evans and Lewie Coyle.

AFC Fylde, meanwhile, paid just £9,550 - although clubs at that level rarely spend big on intermediaries.

Notts County were the biggest spenders in the National League, paying £69,028, followed by Harrogate Town (£29,417), Hartlepool (£24,562) and Wrexham (£22,080).

Premier League clubs paid a total of £263,368,860 to agents during this period, while the 24 sides in the Championship spent £49,299,123.

The figure was £3,921,805 for League One, £1,170,220 in League Two and £319,634 in the National League.

Paying silly money to agents is a fools' game.

However, within reason, contact with 'decent' agents can give a club a real advantage nowadays.

I reckon that the general reputation agents have is tarnished by the top few who give the rest a bad name.

Learning to read clusters is not something your eyes do naturally. It takes constant practice.
