Sunderland Preview 16:08 - Dec 31 with 118 viewsROTTWEILERS

Blackpool will aim to get 2019 off to a strong start when they host Sunderland at Bloomfield Road tomorrow.

The match will be the first meeting between the sides this season, with the reverse fixture previously rescheduled for February.

Both teams head into the game on the back of draws on the weekend, with Blackpool picking up a point at AFC Wimbledon and Sunderland being held at home to Shrewsbury Town.

Team News:

Jay Spearing has been added to the list of concerns for Blackpool, having been substituted late on against AFC Wimbledon. Ollie Turton, Curtis Tilt and Joe Dodoo continue to be monitored, while Donervon Daniels is set for a return to training. Mark Cullen, Jimmy Ryan and Max Clayton remain on the sidelines. Jordan Thompson is suspended.

Sunderland will give a late check to full-back Bryan Oviedo after he was withdrawn on Saturday. George Honeyman and Adam Matthews are also doubtful.

The Referee:

Darren Drysdale has been confirmed to officiate the match, having last refereed a Blackpool fixture in April 2018.

He has taken charge of 23 games so far this season, showing 87 yellow cards and three red ones.

Tickets:

Tickets for home supporters go back on sale at the ticket office from 10am on New Year's Day, priced at:

- £22 for Adults
- £18 for Seniors
- £10 for Under-18s
- Free for Under-11s**

*Prices exclude block M seating.

**Under-11s must become a member of Young Seasiders for £15. This entitles free admission to home EFL matches with a paying adult or senior.

Season ticket holders and members are entitled to £5 off the price of a match ticket for adults and seniors, and £2 off the price of an under-18 ticket.

It'd be a shame if any of them fell through the floor in the east.

From a Sunderland board -

With 7,000 Mackems descending on Blackpool we can be sure of a party atmosphere by the sea side.

For anyone fancying a donkey ride I would suggest safe sex, you just dont know what you may catch.

Let's hope that the boys in red & white got their excess turkey out of their system against Shrewsbury and we see a more dynamic performance and three points.

But what about the team?

I hope Honeyman is back because I think he is missed and I would be tempted to make a few changes.

With Oviedo injured the keeper and back 4 probably pick themselves and Maja must start because he scores goals.

So who would you pick and who do you think Ross will go for?

Fred, copied below is a statement that has been in the public domain via social media for a couple of weeks now. It was posted up by the Sunderland supporter group called Red and White Army.

It should be remembered that it is Owen Oyston who has agreed that Sunderland can take over Blackpool's ground; if the result for Blackpool is negatively affected by that decision, it will be down to him.

"Sunderland supporters have travelled in impressive numbers this season but even by their standards the trip to Blackpool on New Years Day will stand out, with more than 7000 fans due to attend. Blackpool Supporters Trust are caling on visiting fans to help them take a stance against their owner Owen Oyston.

Andrew Hird, chair of independent supporters group Red and White Army said "Whatever level of football you're talking about, 7000 away fans is fantastic and we'll all be in party mood on 1st January. However, as a supporter base that's suffered ourselves in recent years we couldn't let this fixture pass without acknowledging the plight of the long suffering Blackpool fans who continue to boycott against their hugely unpopular owner Owen Oyston. We're realistic enough to know supporters will fancy a pint at half time, however, we urge supporters to show solidarity with fellow football fans and not spend more than is absolutely necessary in the ground"

Christine Seddon, chair of Blackpool Supporters Trust (BST) explained how thousands of long standing supporters have made the difficult decision to stay away. "The visit to Bloomfield Road by Sunderland fans on New Year's Day will ensure the largest crowd of the season for the Oystons and will significantly outnumber Blackpool fans inside the ground. The BST's 'Not A Penny More' stance means they have chosen to not renew season tickets, not to purchase match day tickets for home games, not to buy any club merchandise. BST is also organising an ethical boycott of those businesses that sponsor the club as well as other local businesses run by the club's owners. Quite simply, many supporters will not give the club another penny of their money and have withdrawn their custom until such time as we get a change of ownership."

BST are urging Sunderland fans to support their cause by doing the following.

a) Not purchasing any match programmes or lottery tickets when at the ground
b) Not purchasing any food or drinks from the kiosks on the concourse inside the ground
c) Giving your custom instead to the pubs, chippies etc in the streets around the ground
d) Joining us in the spirit of fans united at our usual pre-match vigil/protest outside the West Stand

The Sunderland Bradford game on Boxing Day broke League 1 records, over 46000. Their attendance was higher than the Spurs game on the same day.

They may show sympathy, but I wonder if these clubs' like Sunderland would be boycotting if they were in our position.

Good to see Dodoo back. (Even if only on the subs bench).

Don't get what Feeney brings to the team, from the little I've seen of him so far.

‘Where there is harmony, may we bring discord. Where there is truth, may we bring error. Where there is faith, may we bring doubt. And where there is hope, may we bring despair’
