Loved Drive Time in the Afternoon. Only 69.

Saw that, while he never reflected much of what I was interested in, he was upbeat, professional and had a sense of humour, characteristics sadly lacking in many of his present day contemporaries. Know nothing about the bloke but I hope he had a good life.

RIP . People in tears on the wireless.
Listened to his afternoon show on my way home from work for nigh on thirty years.
A proper national treasure.

Very sad to hear of his passing.

What an absolute gentlemen he was, I always remember hearing him on Radio 2 in the afternoons.

RIP Steve, what an absolute icon of broadcasting.

First heard him on the local radio In Berkshire many-many years ago, he was good then and even better up to the present day.

RIP Mr Angry.................

fond memories of Steve Wrights BBC Radio 2 show many years when I worked a dead-end factory job. Used to always enjoy the shows and hearing of his death sent me back to working that job.

An absolute giant in broadcasting. Total trailblazer. Grew up laughing my head off to his shows. RIP

Never knowingly right.

Seemed like a good guy.

Two of my late mums favourites passed too young.

She was great fan of Paul O grady also.

RIP Steve Wright in the afternoon...

Just found this out tonight and so so shocked. A fantastic broadcaster and like a lot on here spent a lifetime since the early 80s till today listening to him
For me he will be there with the likes of Tony Blackburn; Kenny Everett et al as true dj legends.
Since Radio 2 had their cull it really as not been the same, and when you listening now to it it seems to have lost its soul
RIP

I was never a big fan -- in fact for obvious musical preferences I avoided Radio One etc for years

However.....

As I got older and began driving holidays around the countryside of this fair Isle the only station I could get was Radio 2 and I really did warm to him over the latter years.

69 years old is no age.
Assume with the sudden nature it was a heart attack and I hope he is in that great DJ Booth in the sky enjoying himself (but not stopping Frankie Knuckles from being on the decks)

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

I started listening to his show when I took up driving trucks as there was nothing else to listen to back in the early 00’s.It was a good listen in those days with the old woman and people’s playlists at 3pm.
As soon as he started that serious jockin garbage though I found another station to listen to as I found him boring and repetitive. With the changes at Radio 2 in the last couple of years I was surprised he stayed at the station. He was a lot better than oj Borge and the rest of crap now on Radio 2.

RIP to him though and condolences to his family and friends.

Been listening to Steve since I had a Stretch Armstrong, drove a mk2 Capri, could fit into 30 inch waist electric blue Lois Jumbo Cords and navigated my way through 2 divorces and 3 marriages.. His voice was part of my growing pains.

Just the Godfather, Tony Blackburn left now.

RIP Steve.
Man, i'll miss your voice.

I was pretty shocked to read about his passing. Was never a regular listener but he was one of those DJ's that had worked his way up from hospital radio, local radio - had served his broadcasting apprenticeship. I know he had a huge and loyal audience - he certainly was a broadcasting institution, and by all accounts a lovely guy.

Sixty nine seems very young, he was such a bundle of energy it feels like he should have been going on for years yet.

RIP Steve.

Was he the DJ that would shout "made up name"? That made me laugh.
