TH takes his fledglings to Cardiff City this evening with the thought that they will never get a better chance of securing a Fourth Round FA Cup berth. After all Cardiff are mid table, winless in 5 matches, disunited and divided with increasing numbers of fans turning their fury towards owner Tan and manager Slade.
Obviously our recent form doesn’t leap off the football pages, but we do at least have harmony within our club which the Bluebirds definitely do not.
The disappointment of our Christmas results, where we struck the woodwork several times against Gillingham and Crawley and had goals chalked off for offside will be something which TH will be keen to gloss over and move onto the opportunity of a decent cup draw in the next round.
It would seem that Gordon is our only likely absentee from tonight’s starting line-up following the most recent games. Sadly long term absentees Gilbey Magnus Kent Wright O'Donoghue & Olufemi continue to still be missing.
Now let us be clear, we should definitely not fear Cardiff, a degree of healthy respect certainly, but even that needs to be tempered by the fact that they are in disarray as an organisation, as a team and as a championship club.
They of course have some decent players — Pilkington, Adeyemi, Jones and Le Fondre; but they are not a cohesive outfit and their confidence is low.
So TH can afford to be bold in his team selection, it is a cup tie and yet another televised game for the super U’s to enjoy.

Paided the price for not getting first to the ball from corners at the start of the second half .
No good working the ball quickly when three down , should have been more proactive earlier .
Two sides lacking confidence to start, quality of the squad to good for the U's, but in the end lacked enough conviction to bring back a result .
Down to the league for the U's now, but without enough quality strikes on goal from the front men will not make above fifth from bottom. | |

The sad fact was no Bluebirds singing even when 3-0 up.
Shocking home attendance; U's fans totally outsang them.
Good effort on the pitch; plenty to encourage us; but the score illustrates the difference in class upfront (notably ability to win free kicks). We might have won 3-4 if we had their strikers given the chances that we had. Had Semba-ferris not stayed on his feet we would surely have had a penalty.
Our thanks go to Canton Rugby Club for hosting us (when the pub wouldn't). Credit too to excellent stadium staff. Very friendly. Now lets get on with the league. |  | | |
