However, underway and streaming now, and no surprise that Edwards has already given Posh a 1-0 start in the 9th minute. I was left worrying the stream might not even show for a while, but it did eventually kick in about ten minutes before kick-off. Each side fully employed squads of around twenty and the Fourth Official gave up with the substitutes information board, so player identification was challenging. It doesn’t help when team sheets identify some players as only Triallist A, B, C and shirts have only numbers not names. A league fixture will be far easier for him and others.
He suggested that a lighter verbal touch was needed “as we could see the pictures”. But I prefer him continuing his more detailed Radio style commentary. For example, he suggested no need to frequently mention time and score. He is patently not aware that the new streaming service currently has no time/score overlay. Frankly, that isn’t an easy fix.
There are also currently no replays, so look away and you might miss a goal. I couldn’t find a wind back/forward >>> <<< function, only stop and pause, but then, I don’t think it is being hosted via (say) YouTube, unlike my cricket broadcasts (see next). But I feel it is a decent service that will no doubt improve as the ‘bugs’ are ironed out.
The only downside for the viewer is cost. Two games in a week has cost me 2 x £5. I-Follow was £4.99 a month. Even so, I think it decent value.
I live stream all Colchester & East Essex First XI Cricket and it takes a surprising amount of resource and infrastructure. Adding a score/time overlay or managing replays isn’t as easy as it sounds. However, ECB has invested in FCC software that is available to all recreational cricket clubs, but it has a surprising cost. I’ve locally tried to replicate this to avoid the annual £600 licence fee that clubs are being charged, in effect, breaking away from the monopoly (which is what the U’s have done from I-Follow), but it’s difficult, and there isn’t yet a viable alternative in cricket.
In summary, I think the U’s new broadcast service is a great start and will get better. But viewers should recognise that the challenges are significant. | | | |

I cannot see a season pass, so would I have to pay 2x 25 Video Pass Credits at £175.00 = £350.00!! That's about $700!!!! For comparison, I paid £140.00 for iFollow last season.
2) With most games kicking off at some ungodly hour (2am or 4am) or while I am at work (6.4am/8.45am kick-off), I normally just watch the 'Full Match Replay' the day after or night of - will this service still be offered (Noah, Wessex - do you still have access to the Peterborough and West Ham matches?)
3) Can't think of another question at the moment - but definitely issues going round my head - iFollow wasn't perfect - but great value and reliable!

I watched both Posh and West Ham streams live and I paid £5 each.
I could instead have paid £7 to attend the game (over 65 concession) but was feeling lazy and a bottle of Malbec in my favourite armchair had appeal.
Whilst September to April I attend most U’s games home and away live, I do rely on I-Follow to watch U’s games (typically next day or in the evening) when they clash with my cricket commitments due to the seasons overlapping.
I might be looking in the wrong place, but I can’t find these streams today. I also can’t find a pay monthly option. My current conclusion is a season’s broadcasts might prove significantly more expensive than the previous I-Follow service.
However, given the costs of broadcasting (staffing etc) I doubt that £5 per view will produce any profit for the club given likely modest viewer numbers, but will probably be cheaper for the club than it engaging I-Follow. However, prices for the consumer do seem to have risen significantly.
