A really good performance again by everyone. The first half was outstanding. The sending off killed the games flowing play, and so did the late substitutions, but that always happens. Jander is quality in central midfield, but the standout players for me last night were Azaz and Fellows down the right, then Scienza on the left (who must be the most fouled player in the Championship) and Armstrong's link-up play, who is basically now playing in a false 9. Big shout to the 15,000 fans who (bothered to) stayed until the end of the game to applaud the players off the pitch after another excellent performance. |
 | News Comment | The Opening Favourites To Replace Will Still Have Been Revealed at 13:20:18
I think that Mark Robins would be a good appointment. He worked wonders in challenging circumstances at Coventry, when their future was uncertain, and now he's got Stoke punching higher in The Championship than anyone expected. We'd be able to probably double his wages and Saints have a far bigger budget than Stoke. |
 | News Comment | Is Silence From St Mary's A Good Or Bad Sign For Will Still at 13:27:55
Maybe the club and manager are just getting on with the business of preparing for Saturday. They probably do not feel the need to create unnecessary debate in the media at this time by releasing statements or opening the manager/players up to further criticism. Colum inches will be written regardless, just like on TUI, so why hand it to the media on a plate? It's a results business, so let's see after Saturday's game, when we are at home, and nowhere to hide come 5pm. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Blackburn Rovers The Verdict at 14:19:15
We can keep sacking managers all the time but there comes a point where we have to acknowledge, this is not where problems are always fixed. The squad simply isn't that good IMO. We can replace Will Still, but whoever comes in will face exactly the same issues; no striker in the number 9 capable of putting games out of sight. There are several other areas of weakness of course but to me, goals come first and in winning games, breeds confidence throughout the rest of the players. Will Still was clearly at fault yesterday with his match day squad and then questionable substitutions, but we were also unlucky with illness. When performances have been poor, that was the last thing we needed. Do we really think another manager will turn it around. I'm not so sure, yet. I think as I have done right from the start of this season, before a ball was even kicked; forget promotion this season, as that's just papering over the cracks, we need to keep investing in the squad ready for the 2026/27 season. Our attention should be on pushing Sports Republic more, not accepting what we see and letting them know, to keep them focused on investing. We need to stop thinking short term and just turning our frustrations on sacking another manager, but think longer term. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Bristol City The Verdict at 11:45:23
We have too many bottle jobs in our squad. Will Still is going to need a couple more transfer windows to get players out and get in new players with a tougher mindset at can fight, stay in games and win in adversity. . You say 'The manager has been given all the tools he needs to do the job' but he clearly hasn't because we have been crying out for a striker for how long now! Its a rebuild. It's the playing squad that's clearly not up to it. Any blame should be directed to the ownership. We can not keep changing managers every 5 minutes. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Swansea City The Verdict at 14:37:51
I completely disagree with this assessment of where we are. This is a rebuild. We need a striker, we need better players. We need a couple more transfer windows and if that means we stay in The Championship another season, so be it. There is no point limping to another promotion. By in large the new signings are improvements. Scienza, good, Jander, good, Fellows good, Jelert good. The defence is looking better. We have a better balance in midfield. Will Still needs time. As they say 'Rome wasn't built in a day'. It's the clubs that need to keep stepping up, as we rebuild. They HAVE to find Will Still a striker that will not just score in this league, but can go with us to the Premier League and score. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Derby County The Verdict at 17:22:14
We are rebuilding. There is no point in limping to another promotion, as we'll just get relegated, again. We need a couple of seasons in The Championship, we need several transfer windows to build a squad imo and we need to stop changing managers every time fans get impatient. If we are to have run at promotion this season, the club must back the manager in January again and give him the players we need and at minimum that's a striker, in the Pelle mould. We've seen that playing this type of player works in the system, but we cannot guarantee Stewart's fitness. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Portsmouth The Verdict at 20:17:02
Disappointing derby. No real passion from either side, not a great game. It's a sterile atmosphere around the city on derby days, created by the police bubble these days. I couldn't hear the Pompey fans all game from the Northam, but I'm sure they'll say the same about us. However, Imo, it was a mistake to move the away end. We've lost the Itchen North fans and their atmosphere that would keep the away fans quiet or distracted. The away section now has free reign to out sing one entire end of the stadium every week ! |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Northampton Town The Verdict at 23:14:56
At the time I couldn't see how Downs fluffed his lines, but having watched it a few times now, the cross from BBD was to Downs back foot. It was a poor cross by BBD rather than Down failure. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Wrexham The Verdict at 22:11:31
Harsh on Jay Robinson. He looked good, their keeper had to make a good save from him and later in that first half, Jay also hit the post. He was turning players inside you nearly everytime he took the ball forward. For me, it looks apparent that Will Still wants to play it wide and get lots of crosses into the box, so it was puzzling not starting either Downs or Stewart in the no 9 position. If he believed neither could play a full 90 minutes yet, fine, but they can both in turn be that focal point. It worked out in the end though and, wow, two goals in the final 6 minutes to win it was fun. |
 | News Comment | The Ugly Inside Verdict On Southampton’s 2025/26 Shirt at 14:38:29
If the numbers on the back are red (or ever if they have to be black), simply get number 11 put on the back of the shirt! I'm not sure which current player wears 11, but it doesn't matter if you dont put a name on the back. Old Skool vibes complete ! |
 | News Comment | Saints 2025/26 Season Ticket Pricing 5% Discount Is Not Enough at 13:21:38
I might be in the minority here, but I really couldn't care less about my club being in the Premier League anymore. It has become far too expensive, kick off times are often ridiculous (and change at a whim), then there is VAR and the entitled premadonnas playing at the highest level (think Dias etc.). Im sure some will say 'but if Saints were winning games' etc, but no. The higher up you go up the league, the more expensive it becomes. Then there is European football, which now involves nearly a 3rd of the PL teams taking part. Look at Villa, charging near on £100 per ticket for each of their Champions League games. Clubs don't care about season ticket holders, they just care about the number attending games. Saint's would not care if they had 30000 season ticket holders filling St Marys or 30000 match day tickets holders in there. The worst thing that happened was the backlash to the European Super League. I wish the mega-rich elite club had gone and left domestic football to thrive without them. If its not the ESL, UEFA want and have been building their own European leagues for 20+ years in expansion of CL, Europa and now Conference Leagues. The Championship prices are ok, considering we get more games. I can't wait for the new season to start. The only issue with The Championship is that if you perform too well; you end up back in The Premier League. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Aston Villa The Verdict at 14:07:44
To be fair, we at least had a game plan, which was to get men behind the ball and defend. But if you set up like this you must have an outlet up front, someone to hold the ball up. We had nothing. Tall Pall was so deep at times he was defending our box! He can go in the summer, he's a cart horse, far too slow. When Stewart came on he put himself about a bit and he's far more mobile for a tall no 9. I'd start him next game and see if he can last 60 mins. I was impressed with Robinson's camio, he looked positive on the ball. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Crystal Palace The Verdict at 08:35:40
Downes was arguably MoTM (KWP aside). As soon as he was taken off, it significantly weaken our midfield and with Lesley off, our control of the centre started to slip and with 8 minutes of extra time, it wasn't a surprise pressure told. Disappointed to drop points, but a far better performance from Saints. |
