Tonda Eckert could be a good appointment. It’s seems that not only can he caretake the team, but he also makes the team. Multi talented 🤭

A Big Decision Week For For Southampton FC
at 15:54:24

As a few have said, it would be a mistake to go straight back into the Premier League and become cannon fodder once again. The team is miles off being able to compete at the top of the Championship let alone the Premier League and we should be looking for consolation this season, particularly now after such a poor start. Therefore you could make an argument to keep Will Still in place and let him try and build a style of play that could develop a good side.

I’m not convinced by him though and feel he should be sacked. His demeanour doesn’t inspire, his substitutions are strange and in most games this season we’ve handed the initiative to the opposition in the second half of games where I feel a manager worth his salt would find a way to manage games better and get us to the win.

Southampton At Blackburn Rovers The Verdict
at 13:32:50

After the managerial shambles of last season I was desperate for Will Still to succeed and I’ve been a happy clappers disagreeing with calls for him to be removed, but there seems to be something seriously wrong going on in the changing room. I find Will Still boring in his pre/post match interviews and if he’s like this when with the players I could understand why they might not want to play for him. I feel now that he should be removed from his post and we need to get someone in who has a bit more about them and from whom you can get enthused!

Southampton At Bristol City The Verdict

I don’t think Still had much to do with the summer signings. Damien Downs doesn’t appear to be good enough and certainly Still isn’t a fan.
Our player recruitment has been poor for a good few seasons now, the focus should have been on a proven centre forward even if it had meant splashing the cash!
If we had taken chances we would probably have had 3 more wins this season.

Southampton V Swansea City The Verdict

The issue we’ve got is our player recruitment. It’s been very poor for a good few years now. That’s where your angst should be directed Nick. We should have recruited a centre forward proven at this level, not someone in Damian Downs who isn’t proven.
We will not score goals with our current forward line, Archer isn’t good enough when teams sit in like Swansea. I think Still knows this and so his line up yesterday was designed to not concede with the wing backs selections. I don’t blame him!

Southampton At Sheffield United The Verdict

I agree with Ian RC, I think the referee got all the major decisions right. Their goalkeeper was trying to avoid colliding with Stewart, but his momentum took him into the striker. Penalty correct decision! Furthermore, Mccarthy was being held for their disallowed goal, their player making limited or no effort to attack the ball. Disallowed goal correct decision.

Finally, dismissing Wilder for his petulance, correct decision!

Don’t like the narrative that the game was too big for the referee. The guy has got to a ‘bigger’ game sooner or later and in my view he should be supported because he got things right👍🏻

One In And Four Out Likely At Southampton On A Controversial Friday

MF wanted to go, he wants to try and force his way into Portugal’s World Cup squad and with all due respect to the Saints he won’t improve his chances playing in the Championship! Good luck to him!

Could Southampton's Loaned Out Players Return To Play This Season
at 08:36:07

AA isn’t getting in WBA’s starting line up right now so I don’t think we should look to bring him back. If he did come back and was successful in the Championship for us next season and we get promoted then we have the same problem that we had at the start of this season. He’s not good enough for the Prem and we’ll end up paying an extortionate amount for another striker if we could even get one and SR are prepared to pay the money? Big IFS
Personally I would like to see us try and find a new striker for next season and hope if promoted they make it in the Premier League. A lot more big IFS!!!

I can’t believe that Sports Republic have said that Juric will be our manager for next season! The guy hasn’t got a clue. Tactically he is inept and it seems in man management he is inept to. When the players stop trying for me that’s on the manager. I agree, he needs to be gone now. Get someone else in to try to get the elusive 3 points!

Southampton V Liverpool The Carabao Cup Verdict

We looked a lot more threatening when crosses started to come in from Sugawara. I feel that Tall Paul can be a real handful and he’s something different to the normal striking options in the Premier League. It would be good to start him and see what happens. My concern is would we get enough players around him for knock downs and second balls?

Enough Is Enough ! Russell Martin Has To Adapt Or Go !
at 12:57:59

Haven’t seen the Saints live for a while, it’s been too saddening, but watched from just after Stephens was sent off last night.
The passing around at the back is suicidal. Because we’ve not adapted our play that much over the season so far it is easy for the opposition to set traps for us and we simply fall in!
When we break the press it looks good and even with 10 players last night we did that a few times quite well, but the rewards simply don’t warrant the risks we take.

We’re going down, but I want Martin to stay, eventually learn from his mistakes, develop some pragmatism to our play and then bounce back up again and play a different style next time around. Controversial view I know, but constantly changing managers is no good.

Southampton At Bournemouth The Verdict
at 10:24:10

That was just plain awful!
We look so fragile mentally. As soon as Bournemouth scored you could see the confidence evaporate. Playing tippy tappy requires confidence and when confidence isn't there we look a shambles.
I like Russell Martin, but I've now come to the conclusion that his lack of pragmatism in how he sets us up to play and asks them to play will NEVER work in the Premier League and if he is not prepared to adapt and develop a Plan B then he should be asked to leave the club.

Southampton Launch Bid For Brazilian Striker
at 11:28:00

It seems clear that Alcaraz needs to be sold before money becomes available for a striker, but why has it taken so long for Alcaraz's sale to be concluded? It seemed fairly obvious that RM was prepared to let Alcaraz go for quite some time.
The potential Alberto signing seems rather knee jerk to me and I just worry that we might be getting another Carrillo or a Tall Paul, although the latter hasn't really been given a proper chance.

From other reports I’ve read it seems that Adam Armstrong wasn’t happy with what he perceived as a lack of movement from Mara. Clearly it affected his performance. He always does better with Adams in the team. It was extremely disappointing to see Adams omission from the starting lineup yesterday!

I find RM’s press conferences rather bizarre at the best of times, but after the defeat last night bizarre is replaced with ridiculous! What on earth is he doing in saying we wouldn’t have lost 5-0 with JS in the team. It was nonsensical! He picks the teams!

I have a tendency to agree with those who say he’s lost the plot.

Southampton At Leicester The Debacle

Can see why we ship so many goals, stand off the player, stand off, stand off, oh he’s passed it for a goal! Must be down to how we train, coaches got to take a lot of blame!

And is it me, but is Russell Martin so frustrating to watch at press conferences!

Southampton At Cardiff City The Verdict
at 12:03:35

I said at the beginning of the season after we suffered that string of defeats that it is the clubs with the best defensive records that normally win promotion and unfortunately it looks like I'm going to be proved right. Both Leeds and Leicester have conceded goals in the 30s, whilst we have conceded 56 to date. Ipswich are the anomaly with 53 against, but if they do go up they'll get battered in the Premier League because Premier League defenses are so much better and so their goals scored will drop off.

Whilst our forwards couldn't hit a 'Cow's a--e with a banjo' on Saturday, ultimately it isn't the lack of goals that has killed us.

Flynn Downes has been a big miss when he's been out and our inconsistent form has coincided with him not being regularly available.
