![]() Saturday, 6th Aug 2011 09:28 Enjoy the next few hours. The opening day of the season starts off with football supporters the country over filled with optimism & hope, will it be our season this year ? has the manager finally got it right ? just a couple of questions that will soon be answered. All the talk will be of winning games and in the case of team in the Football league, promotion. Of course that bubble will soon be burst when the first ball is finally kicked and Saints fans more than most know how much of a let down the opening day can be having experienced the joys of a win on it, only once in the last 23 years. But for the time being now is the time to enjoy that feeling we have experienced so little, let the optimism couse through our veins and feel sure that this will be a rare first game win. That last home game in May seems an age away, perhaps its due to the fact that there was no World Cup or European Championships this year, so football has been in short supply for the last three months, whatever the reason absence makes the heart grow fonder and most of us are looking forward to getting inside the stadium and seeing the team in competitive action again. So bring it on, this morning of hope lasts a little longer than usual this year due to the late kick off, will this be our first opening day home win for 23 years ? I think it just might be, although deep down i know that like every other year, my hopes will soon be dashed and that what has become the traditional half time moan by Saints fans in the toilets will truly signal that the season is under way.
