Swans Say Williams Price Tag Is Excessive

Williams Bid Ruled Out

Huw Jenkins has said he will not be making Gavin Williams Swansea's first £1 million signing after Ipswich put that exact price tag on his head.

Speculation in recent weeks has said that the Swans were interested in a move for the Welsh midfielder after he fell out of favour at Ipswich and Jenkins has confirmed that the Swans have enquired after the player.

However, Ipswich have asked for the seven figure sum for their man and Jenkins immediately ruled that out

"Gavin Williams is one of various players we've enquired about this month, but, as far as I know, Ipswich are keen on keeping him," said Jenkins.

"£1m is the fee I was quoted for Gavin, which is excessive. There's no way we we're going to pay that sort of money for him."

Williams fell out with manager Jim Magilton at Portman Road after a trip to Amsterdam prior to their 3rd round FA Cup tie at Chester. He has been told he can leave but is reluctant to get away saying "It would be a disaster to me if I was to go. The issue has been playing on my mind and affecting my form.

"I now want to forget all about it - and concentrate on the big games that await Ipswich Town."

A source close to Gavin said just over a week ago much the same thing but also added if he has to go then he wants to go back home to South Wales.

"That means he will join either Cardiff or Swansea. If Cardiff don't want him then he would rather sign for Swansea than join another Championship club."

Whether this deal is dead in the water yet remains to be seen but if there is to be further progress it is obvious to all concerned that Ipswich will have to significantly lower their demands for a player who is likely to line up against us on Saturday.
