Leon Britton believes now is the prime time for him to play in the Premier League

The Swansea City midfielder was talking as speculation again came up that Wigan were about  to make a move for him in the summer when he will be out of contract.

He told journalists “I’m 27 and when you turn 30 people start to think your career is winding down

“I sense the next few years I will be in my prime and I want to be able to try myself in the top flight.

“I just need to see what the situation is come the end of the season. I’ve got to sit down in the summer and think about it. “Swansea might go up or we might not. It’s about speaking to the people close to me.

“This is an important time in my career. At my age it will be the biggest decision I make and I have to make sure it is the right one.”

Despite that big decision around the corner, Leon was more concerned with the Swans game against Sheffield United that could seal their play off place and he was hopeful he would keep his place in the side “Easter weekend against Scunthorpe there were a lot of changes and I was told I was being rested

“The Bristol City game I had a slight tweak in my back, but I trained on Friday and the manager decided to leave me out.

“I don’t know why. Me and the manager didn’t speak about it so I’m not 100 per cent sure.

“I want to play in every game, but in football that does not always happen.

“So it was nice to be involved again against Barnsley after the two games out. The players want to be involved at this time of the season, particularly with the position we are in.

“I wanted to try to work my way back into the side and put in a good performance. I did that and we got a nice win.

“Perhaps we have gone for it a bit more recently, but we’ve always known we had goals in us,” said Britton.

“We’ve been pressing teams higher up the pitch and in general we’ve been taking the chances when they’ve come.

“Goals win you games and we need wins so we have to carry that kind of form forward into the remaining games.

“We have to remain calm and focused and not get too distracted or it will affect us on the pitch,” said Britton.

“We are in control of the situation. We are two points ahead of Blackpool and we have to remember that.

“We have to concentrate on ourselves. As soon as you start thinking about what is happening elsewhere, then you will get caught out.

“People look at Blackpool’s game against Peterborough and say it’s easy, but there are no easy games in this division.

“OK, it’s the end of the season and players already relegated might be thinking about holidays, but they are still pros.

“They’ve got a new manager there too so they are playing for next season if you like. It’s not going to be as easy for Blackpool as people think.

“But we need to go to Sheffield United looking to win and then it doesn’t mater what Blackpool do.

“It’s going to be tough. I think many people thought Sheffield United would be one of the teams up there challenging. They aren’t, but they are going to want to end the season on a high in front of their own fans.

“But there is massive excitement in and around our dressing room. We are in a fantastic position, fighting for the play-offs is a great situation and everyone is looking forward to it.

“You are playing football to be involved in games where things are really riding on them.”
