Fans may be divided over dealings but Jackett is happy

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett believes the club's January dealings have left him with an exciting squad who can have a good go at nabbing a play-off place.

The manager brought in ex-Fratton No1 Stephen Henderson on deadline day, in addition to three youngsters recruited earlier in the window - Anton Walkes, Sylvain Deslandes and Connor Ronan.

Going in the other direction were Kyle Bennett - to the surprise of many - and Milan Lalkovic.

Fans have given mixed reactions to the Blues' bits of business but Jackett is content with the group he has to select from in the games ahead, starting with Saturday's visit of Doncaster.

He told the Pompey website: 'We added an experienced goalkeeper who is a player I’ve been pursuing for a little while and I’m pleased to bring him in. He offers a presence in the box and brings organisation and talking, which is something that’s needed at the right time.

'In terms of Luke McGee, I believe it will do him good — in the long run — to take a step back in order to go forward. We brought in a total of four players over January, with a couple of young defenders and a number 10 in Ronan, and I’m pleased with those additions.

'There are many links and enquiries made, but it’s very easy to bring people in — it’s a lot harder to bring quality people in. We’ve got a few experienced guys like Stephen, Gareth Evans and Brett Pitman, with people like Christian Burgess and Nathan Thompson who are established in the team.

'But the remainder of the squad are between 18 and 25. I think it’s an exciting group who want to step up and have a real good run at getting into that top six.'
