Are Pompey about to up their average midfield age? Wednesday, 7th Feb 2018 19:59 by pompey-fans.com staff Pompey are considering adding a 36-year-old to their young squad. They have been giving a trial to former Ipswich and Brentford midfielder Jonathan Douglas as they try to combat the loss of Danny Rose and Stuart O'Keefe to injury. He had a tidy game in Pompey reserves' 1-1 draw with Leicester at Bognor in the Premier League Cup. Blues academy boss Mark Kelly, who ran the team, told The News he felt Douglas had done well. He said: 'Duggy did well in there with Theo. It’s a bit hard when you walk through the door and he’s playing with a few youngsters but I thought he did really well. ‘He probably hasn’t played a lot of football in the last month or so, it’s about where he is — and he did well. He has been in and around the training ground doing a little bit. ‘He has been training with us during the week and was obviously available for the game. The rest is down to Ken (Jackett).’ The big news from the reserve match was the return to match action for defender Jack Whatmough after five months out injured. Whatmough and Brandon Haunstrup both came safely through the game.
