Goals can only help midfielder into Jackett's plans

Adam May is hoping a friendly hat-trick can help push him into Pompey's first team.

His treble came in a young Blues team's 5-1 win at Bognor on Tuesday night - hours after he had played a part in a 1-1 draw with a Brighton XI.

May hopes it will help put him in Kenny Jackett's plans as he finalises his squad ahead of the League One opener on Saturday week.

The midfielder told the Pompey website: 'It’s not every day that you score a hat-trick — or even a goal — so it was very good for me personally. I had a decent run-out in the morning, but felt I needed a few more minutes, so I asked to play in this game.

'The Premier League is a standard you want to get to, so Brighton was an important pre-season test for us. I then thought it was a professional performance from everyone at Bognor and a really good result for us.

'I don’t normally get many chances in the game — let alone put three in the back of the net, so I’m very happy. I never really find myself that far forward and I was pleased with how I took them, but on another night they might not have all gone in.'
