Not quite 'nothing to lose' for Pompey but pressure is off at Norwich

Pompey head into a clash with Championship high flyers Norwich insisting the pressure is off.

Despite their own successful season to date very few neutrals will expect the Blues to knock the Canaries off their perch and progress to the FA Cup's fourth round.

Assistant manager Joe Gallen said the team were in good spirits after picking up nine points out of 12 over the Christmas / New Year period, and hinted they had little to lose in travelling to play a side from the division above.

He told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'We won three out of the four games – we wanted to go unbeaten and, unfortunately, that wasn’t meant to be. But nobody’s really fatigued when you’re doing well and everyone’s ready for Saturday. It’s an exciting game.

'It’s a serious challenge for us. They’ve been around the top of the Championship for quite a while and are looking to get into the Premier League. Norwich is a great place to go and play – they always have big crowds and we’re bringing a lot of our fans along.

'So we’re looking forward to it and it’s not often that we find ourselves as the underdogs. We probably were against Sunderland and you saw how our supporters reacted to that. The pressure’s perhaps off us a little bit, but we know we’re going to have to play very, very well to get a result.'

Pompey are without Lee Brown, Nathan Thompson and Ben Close and may rest one or two others, although Kenny Jackett is thought likely to play quite a strong side in the 5.30pm kick-off.
