No news is good news as far as Pompey and players are concerned

Kenny Jackett is happy to play the waiting game as he assesses which of his squad will stay or leave this summer - and he'll hoping silence remains golden where some are concerned.

The Pompey boss has been speaking about out of contract Nathan Thompson and about the bigger stars in the squad who are thought likely to attract interest in this close season.

Speaking to www.portsmouthfc.co.uk, Jackett said of Thompson, who had delayed signing a new deal during the season: 'Nathan wanted to see where things are in the summer and I’m sure he’ll be assessing his options, although there’s no news yet.

'We’ve always stated that we want him to stay here and I appreciated his honesty that he wanted to concentrate on his football last season. His effort and consistency never waivered during that time and I have a great deal of respect for him because of that.'

There's plenty of speculation about clubs - mostly at Championship level - who will be after the likes of Matt Clarke and Jamal Lowe this summer, but Jackett said speculation was all it amounted to so far.

He told the website: 'We’ve had no offers for any other players, although there’s been a lot of speculation — you’ll always get that at a big club like Pompey. You can only react if and when people put money on the table and it’s hard to speak about whether other sides will make bids.'

One of Pompey's 2018-19 loanees, James Vaughan, has been released by Wigan but there is no sign of the Blues making a play for him.
