Pompey defender heads to States ... Iron in town in trophy
Thursday, 9th Jan 2020 21:25 by pompey-fans.com staff

Anton Walkes is crossing the Atlantic to sign for MLS side Atlanta.

The utility man has left Fratton Park for an undisclosed fee with the blessing of Kenny Jackett.

The 22-year-old scored three goals in 66 appearances for Pompey in his two years at Fratton.

Most recently Walkes had been used at left-back after Lee Brown and Brandon Haunstrup were both ruled out with injuries.

Jackett told the Pompey website: 'Anton’s girlfriend is from America and they have a daughter together, so this is a really good opportunity for him to make a new start over there.

'We understand his reasons for wanting to move away and wish him all the very best for the future.'

Walkes had a loan spell with Atlanta during the 2017 MLS season.

Meanwhile Pompey will be at home to Scunthorpe in the quarter-finals of the Football League Trophy following their third round win at Walsall. The game will be played in the week beginning of January 20.
