Boss can't put finger on Pompey's home woes
Thursday, 25th Feb 2021 20:22 by pompey-fans.com staff

Kenny Jackett admits he can't put his finger on why Pompey have dropped so many points at home this season - but knows Fratton form has to improve if his team are to be promoted.

The Blues have won only six out of 16 home league games so far - drawing four and losing six. That is not promotion form and it is only a record of nine wins from 13 away games that have kept Jackett's team in touch with the top teams.

They host Gillingham on Saturday six points off second-placed Lincoln and seven behind leaders Peterborough - with little room for further home slip-ups.

And they will be all too aware the Gills have been something of a bogey side for them in recent seasons.

Jackett told the Pompey website: 'Gillingham are a very competitive side, with an experienced manager and if we have to be at our best against them. But we should be buoyed by the result on Tuesday night and now there’s a determination to build on that.

'Our home record this season hasn’t been as good as we’ve wanted, so that’s something we’re looking to rectify. I can’t really put my finger on why it’s been like that and you’ve got to do everything you can to improve.

'This is always a really competitive division and it’s hard to pick up points, so we have to make sure we get our performance right. We’re fourth in the table, but things can change very quickly.

'We have to apply pressure on the sides above us and I do think any of the three promotion places are still open.'

Pompey are back on the road after this one - going to Doncaster on Tuesday and Northampton the following Saturday.
