Honest conversation helped bring Brown's Pompey spell to end

Lee Brown has left Pompey for AFC Wimbledon - after what Danny Cowley said was an 'honest conversation' he had with him about his Fratton future.

Brown, 31, had been at Fratton since the summer of 2018 but had found himself a little way down the first team pecking order this season - with Reeco Hackett preferred on the left in recent weeks and Denver Hume now recruited from Sunderland for that side of things.

Brown scored six goals in 131 appearances for the Blues and was vice-captain - filling in as captain a number of times.

Cowley told the Pompey website: 'It all came about pretty quickly after we signed Denver Hume from Sunderland earlier in the week. On the back of that I had a really honest conversation with Lee, who was coming out of contract with us this summer.

“There was naturally a lot of interest in him from other clubs because he’s an experienced player and a great character — both on and off the pitch.

'So there’s a lot for us to thank Lee for and it’s a really good move for him. I’ve got no doubt that he’ll do a good job of helping to develop the youngsters at Wimbledon. It’s a move that works for all parties and we obviously wish him nothing but success moving forward.'
