It's a cracker: Pompey tie down another key man
Tuesday, 7th Jun 2022 20:03 by pompey-fans.com staff

First Sean Raggett - now Michael Jacobs. Pompey are tying down some of the key players who fans wanted to remain at Fratton after notable contributions in 2021-22.

Defender Raggett's new Blues deal was revealed at the weekend and now Pompey have confirmed playmaker Jacobs is staying put too. Reeco Hackett is another to have signed for a longer stay.

Jacobs, 30, told the Pompey website, said: 'It’s great that it’s all sorted and that I’m going to be spending another season at the club. I’ve had an excellent relationship with the fans during my time here, despite it being a bit stop-start for me.

'But when I have played, then I feel as though I’ve produced decent performances and they’ve responded to that. Hopefully, with a decent pre-season under my belt, I can be fighting fit and ready to play consistently.

'Our form from the end of January was really good — both in terms of performances and the number of points we collected. We just left it a little bit too late to be able to get into the play-offs, but it was still an encouraging way to finish and now we want to build on that.

'A lot of the squad from last season has been kept together and that’s a good stepping stone for us moving forward. There will obviously some changes in personnel before the start of the new season and the division is going to be strong again.

'But if we can produce the form we’re capable of on a consistent basis, then we’ll give ourselves a great chance of finding success.'
